I am seriously considering buying the Thinkpad T60 now and just have a couple simple questions to help me know a little bit more.

    1) This will mostly be used for school and class work. Does the laptop have a decent battery life?

    2) Is it durable? I notice it isn't as cool looking (which I know really doesn't matter much) as some other notebooks. It looks very durable though.

    3) How is the finger print scanner? I have heard complaints about laptop finger print scanners in general in terms of needing to swipe your finger multiple times before it recognizes you.

    4) I will most likely be watching a lot of movies on it. I have a huge collection. Is it a good movie watchiong laptop?

Thanks in advance for your time.

If you want bettery life for college classes, spec it w/ a 14" screen and 9-cell. Should get you close to 5 hours continuous.

    Durable? Absolutely.

Finger print scanner: I ordered mine w/o because I knew I'd just forget the passwords... If it comes with it, it's not like you have to use it...

Movie watching: Can't comment on that exactly since I haven't gotten mine yet, but the reviews seem to say it's good, but not the best. Mostly because of the screen.

I agree with cvec, the notebook is not the best for movie watching.
    (1) . Yes with 9 cell battery
(2). Yes it's very durable. Personally I find the plain black style of thinkpads cool.
(3). Once you learn how to swipe correctly, it will recognize from the first try. Personally, I find this feature very useful. It has a software that substitutes all your passwords with your fingerprint. e.g : when I go to check my yahoo email, I don't enter the password, I just swipe my finger, so I save some time
    (4) I have watched some movies on it. it's good. But not the best out there.

It has a decent battery life even with a 6 cell

Cool looking? What the heck does that mean? I think the Thinkpad is well designed, really quiet, slim, and light.

For extra portability, I suggest you get one with a 14".1 screen.

You're buying this primarily to watch movies or to do actual work on it?

On the cool looking bit, that is primarily why I chose it. All those cool looking ones like the HP's, will look like crap after about a year or two of use. The thinkpads will look like new for years to come. I've got a HP right now, and some of the "spiffy" paint has worn off which makes it look like crap. We also have a 6 year old dell lattitude, all black. Looks brand new. I'd rather it look new for years to come, than to look good for a year or so, then look just awful.

I dunno about you but my classes are mostly 1hr15min long and the long ones are 2hr30min.

Unless you plan on using your notebook all day long without any power cord, 6cell will last for one class.
