I've been using a 65w power adapter for my x301 at home.

Recently, I needed to bring the laptop out to work very often, so Im

considering of buying another power adapter.

I found 65w and 90w adapters on LENOVO.COM and it says both adapters

work fine with a x301. Is this right?

Anyone knows what's the difference btw the two? AND which one would be better?

Thanks for your advices in advance. :)

They will both work. The 90W will supply more than enough power to the X301 and any peripherals plugged into the X301. It could let the battery charge faster than with the 65W power adaptor, so I'd recommend the 90W for at-home usage. I'm not positive, but the 90W is probably larger and heavier than the 65W adaptor (which you can use on-the-go).

If you're considering buying a 90W adaptor, here's a great price on an official Lenovo Thinkpad power adaptor: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=382116

Thanks a lot for your advice and the link MidnightSun (looks like a great deal :) )

Just one more question tho, as you said"The 90W will supply more than enough power to the X301 and any peripherals plugged into the X301."

Does this("more than enough power") mean the 90w could make power related problems on the laptop?

A 90watt PSU is not just going to send a higher load because it is 90watts. It just has the higher capacity. You will get faster charges to your battery but the 90watt adapter (having the amps and voltage is safe...this adapter is safe) certainly is nothing to worry about using.

No, it won't. In general, it's fine to use an AC adapter with a higher wattage, while you should not use one of a lower wattage than the one that comes with your laptop.

I really don't care to dig under my desk to fish out my 90W adapter, but there's a noticeable size/weight difference between the 65W & 90W adapters. I echo the recommendation for 90W for home usage and 65W for away. When I bought my T400 I was able to get an 65W adapter for something like $25 and I leave my 90W at home. Works great.
