While I love(d) my e220s, I found the small hard drive to be an annoyance.

    I found this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/thinkpad-edge-x1-x100e-x120e-sl-l/583455-e220s-9-5mm-ssd-2.html

so I ground the 'foot' off with a small grinder and fit a 1Tb Seagate. Used thin cardboard (business card thickness) to shield the PCB.

To speed things up, I used a 64gb mSata drive for / and /swap. Boots Ubuntu 12.04.1 in less than 20 seconds now.

Unfortunately, gravity is still the enemy. I managed to drop it on a concrete floor. Still works fine, but the chipped trim irritates my wrist.

I'll put up some photos when I disassemble it this week- I've got to figure out how to do the same mod to its replacement, an X230.
