    9-cell carrying handle

    I know it's not the best idea, but anyone use previous 9-cells for this purpose? I'm pretty sure, being that I tend to abuse my laptops, that I'll do this.

    That's definitely not a good idea. Over time the battery latch will no doubt get very loose if you use the protruding battery as a handle.

    I use my 9-cell on my T41p as a carrying handle, I also use the pcmcia slots near the front. The computer has been going strong for 4 years now and the battery is no more loose than it was the day I got it. The only things that have broken (and I repaired) are a few keys on the keyboard and the left magnesium hinge.
