    Hi, everyone.
I just bought a used T61 with a 9 cell battery. The battery only charged 9 times where appears in power manager.
When I bought it, the former owner said this battery will last to above 7-8 hours, and I believe it since when I saw it at the first time, the icon show 3:30 hours in around 50%.

But, since I updated something to my system, either up to vista or utilities for T61 itself, the battery only can last less than 3 hours. I always saw 2:30 in 100%. I recharged it either shut down or during using my laptop. I mean, I try to figure out whether the operation system or the battery causes this problem. But I got the same result. It never regains its capacity.

I did some researches. I realized that not only I experienced this problem, yet not one found out the solution.

Before I reinstall my operation system or find another friend who use T61 and I can continue my experiments. I just want to see does anyone have the same problem with their 9 Cell battery?

I appreciate any information for it.

    1. Open Power Manager.
    2. Switch to advanced view.
    3. Click the battery Tab
    4. Post These numbers:
    • Full Charge Capacity
    • Wattage (must be unplugged; post idle and load if possible)
    • Cycle Count
    • First Used Date
    • Design Capacity

If full charge capacity is substantially below design capacity, you will need a new battery. If wattage is high (above 12 watts at idle) then something is wrong with your OS and you need a reinstall.

    Thank you for your response.

Since I can't attach picture in here. I ganna copy it.

    Remaining precentage 99%

    Remaining time 2:45

    Remaining capacity 84.53 Wh

    Full charge capacity 85.75 Wh

    Cycle count 10

    Manufacture SANYO

    Manufacture date 2009-03-07

    First used date 2009-03

    SerialNumber 19945

    Bar-Code number 1ZFBH937FE1

    FRU part number 42T4644

    Design capacity 84.24 Wh

    Design voltage 10.80V

    that's it.

so, it's a new battery. Shall I reinstall my OS?
But when I turn off my laptop and charge it, it still can't get a right energy.

To get the most battery life, you have to use Maximum Battery Life or Power Saver settings. Then you have to lower the display brightness.

On a T61 with 9 cell, you can get a little over 5 hours with low power consumption settings.

    Thanks for everyone!
I tried several mathods, no one works.
The last effort is that I update the BIOS of my T61. The system now can identify more information with my battery; such as Lenovo battery, etc.
But I still just get less than 4 hours battery lasting.
I suspend this private war with my NEW battery.
    Thanks guys!

I'm not sure why your war was private. I had a t61p the was fully packed with the T9800 processor on it and it indicated that 1/2 of the nine cell battery was gone in two hours. I never took it all the way to a zero.

See my sig for specs on my T61p, but I have never ever gotten more than 3 1/2 hours out of a 100% charge on my 9 Cell Battery, and I have owned it since Brand new. I think the previous owner of yours was blowing smoke up your bum.. and the 3:30 @ 50% you saw could have been the power manager not having caught up after hibernate/sleep. I know that sometimes right after I resume from sleep it will say I have like 12+ hours of life left and then it re-calibrates to the correct time left after about 20 seconds or so.

That right here can be used to trick a new buyer if he doesn't know about that it calibrates to the right remaining battery time left.

Try changing the link state power management in Vista's power manager to "moderate power savings" if you have it otherwise.
