So, i plan to leave it for charging about 12 hours, fully discharge it and do it once more.

Is this ok for the first 2 charges or is there a better method ?

Why do you need to fully discharge it? Fully discharging or continually topping off lithium-ions is not good. Just use it regularly and recreate an interval to charge and stop charging. I use 70%(start art)-95%(stop at).

Just use it normally a few times and it will start to work better.

I know about this, in fact, i have the same thresholds that you have! When i say "discharge", i mean to let it go, at say, 5% and the fully charge to 100% and this only for the first 2-3 charges.

Isn't it the "recommended" way to use a fresh brand new battery ?

Absolutely not for any kind of lithium-ion battery. Indeed you'll substantially reduce its lifespan by discharging it to minimums unnecessarily.

There is no special preparation required to use a li-ion battery. Just charge it and use it as you need.

You mean to apply my specific threshold (70-90) from the very start, without charge it for the first time until 100 % ??

It doesn't really matter. Topping it off and running it down at first may help calibrate the battery, but it shouldn't be required.

If you don't feel you are getting the battery life you should, you can always try recalibrating it later (charge to 100%, let run down until it shuts off [not 5%, but internal battery cutoff]). Lenovo/IBM recommends this once every ≈30 charges (don't do it too much though, because this is how I trashed my battery for my T40).

The thresholds are a good idea because they minimize the number of charge cycles you put into the battery. You may want to drop it down to 50% for storage if this is a secondary battery (it is not wise to store Li-Ion batteries at a high charge for long periods of time). Then just top it off before a plane trip or other occasion when you want to have two batteries.

Just a thought: Now that the battery exceeds a little at the back of the laptop, how should actually curry this thing when let's say, i move from my office to another one across the floor ?

I mean, with the 6 cell battery i was holding the TP from the back side, now is it safe to do so or i better hold it from the front side where the open/close mechanism is located ??

I use the 8 cell battery on my x200 Tablet like a handle (it even has a nice rubberized textured grip). As long as your battery doesn't wiggle too much, I would just carry the Thinkpad by the battery. I usually do battery at the bottom and computer flipped up between my arm and body (shields it better this way).

That's the way i used to hold my TP when on 6 cell battery. So, you actually hold it by the battery this way. I worry about breaking the battery-close switch, there is more weight now and the place of the battery that exceeds from the TP...

I don't worry about it. Plus, the way I carry it gravity pushes the ThinkPad towards the battery (I would be less likely to carry it by the battery if the computer was pulling away from it). I also use the battery to pull my x200 out of my very tight bag, and as a handle when I use it in slate mode (I have the tablet). It should be noted that my 8 cell has practically no wiggle (1mm at most in any direction). If there is a lot of give on your 9 cell (some people have complained about this), you might want to reconsider.
