Now that a 9 cell battery is available for the 15.4" T61, could a 9 cell be put in a 14.1" T61 (if purchased separately), or are the they not compatible? I realize the battery would stick out a lot more, but I think it might be worth it if it's possible. Thanks.

check the battery part number and call lenovo and ask. I have a nine cell on my t60p. I think if you have the nine cell you need 90watt adapter for the t60p. I suggest you call them and ask because you could mess up your laptop even if the battery installs when you charge it. Also ne snese to waste $120. It is also possible that the battery for the 15.4" may be too big in length for you laptop I suggest you call tech support.

A 9-cell battery would be nice. The current T61's 7-cell battery cannot compete with the Dell Latitude D630's 9-cell battery.

I really doubt there will be a 9 cell for the 14.1 T61, the battery would probably stick out to much because of the smaller form factor. Lenovo's only previous 14.1 widescreen notebook the Z61t only had the same selection of battery sizes as the T61.

The Latitude can get away with it because the 9 cell would give you more wrist resting room.

    I found this info here:
    4, 6 or 7 Cell Lithium-Ion (14.1" widescreen)
    6 or 9 Cell Lithium-Ion (14.1" standard and 15.4" widescreen)

How heavier is the 9" battery compared with the 6" one.

And could someone also plz give the estimated battery time for a 6" T61 and 9" T61.

Me! And I can remember that Homer_Jay_Thompson said that he would appreciate it too.

Just as said before by Tailic; it's a wristsupport. :)

But on the other hand: with the T61 it's handy that the battery sticks out on the back so you can easy hold it on your arm :)

It's a shame that the battery doesn't protude on both sides :D

Some customers prefer batteries that stick out of the front. I am one. I can use it as a palm/wrist rest. I am confused by batteries that stick out of the back. Batteries that stick out of the back serve no purpose.

    EDIT:
You can also use the battery on a latitude to hold it under your arm. You just hold the front side down and back side up.

EDIT EDIT: I get it now. You are not talking about carrying the laptop, but during its use on your lap. Why would you want to use one hand to hold the laptop and the other to type? I prefer to use both hands for typing.

I thought about that option, but it takes up the optical drive slot.

I'm starting to agree...battery in the front is overall better.

I can live with headphone jacks and I/O ports on the sides, that's natural, but they are a little less desirable on the front, and let's be honest here, VGA and DVI should go back in the rear, not the sides. The sides should be used for more media card slots, or even (God, I wish for this) dual or triple RP-SMA jacks for external wi-fi antennas.

More stuff should go in the rear. ;)

I think you're one of the only people who wants an external RP-SMA connector. It would be nice but far behind things like DVI or HDMI. If it really matters you can get an expresscard with external antenna connections I think. Either way external antenna connections would be a huge waste of space.

only negative i can see with the bat in front is that its a source for heat...and a lot of it makes for warm sweaty palms...i guess if you like that kind of thing.

With an Atheros N card within? No way. I'd sooner that Mini-PCI-E slot be filled by a device I use, and I want to use an internal card.

Hey, I didn't say throw out the DVDI or HDMI ports! With a battery-free rear, all are welcome! (This board needs a Tangina smilie) We can have it all there, even eSATA, plus on top of that, RP-SMA jacks are TINY. I just think TP should be the innovator here. For them to include RP-SMA jacks anywhere is one hell of a selling point, in my opinion.

Well, Lenovo could offer them in frosted blue as their T61W "Winter Edition". :p

I cannot use a laptop while standing, because I know I will drop it.

Is there a final verdict regarding the 9-cell battery on the 14.1" T61 ?
