I was playing Deus Ex Human Revolution on all low settings, and getting good frame rates. But when I closed the game after about 20 minutes and checked Core Temp, my temps had a high of 81 Celsius on core #1 and 80 Celsius on core #2! Is this bad? Is there a way I can make it run cooler?

Also I was playing on a hard surface with no cooling mat or anything. Also I checked the fans and they work fine, and there is no dust.

Would re-applying thermal compound help? Or would that void the warranty?

Also can I contact Lenovo and complain about it over heating?

Those temps are not that bad while playing a game, my computer a MSI GX660 w/upgrades can reach temps of 85c without my turbo fan or cooler. You just wanna stay in the safe area below 90c. Buying a laptop cooler can help cool your computer around 5* depending on which cooler you buy. Also, if you have stock thermal paste, buying better thermal paste from newegg would def help those temps and will not void your warranty.

Okay, I have some thermal paste, and I think I'll try re-applying it tomorrow. Thanks for the advice. Also mine is te model with the i3-2310m I don't know I'd this matters.

Most laptop coolers use fans that don't move a lot of air. Even worse, the fan must be positioned properly below your laptop to be effective. I used an external thermaltake fan that is mounted on an enclosure so that the fan blows directly into the vent intake.

Don't forget that you can control the fan speed in the Y470 using the button to the right, above the keyboard. It looks like a moon with a +. I change mine to efficient thermal dissapation when gaming.

Yeah, mine is on efficient Thermal dissipation all the time. So I think I will benefit from replacing the thermal paste
