    Hi everyone,

I recently received my new W500.This is my first Lenovo and I love it so far.

When I check task manager, I have 80+ processes running from startup.
Is this normal for you guys?
Are you guys able to reduce the amount? And How?

    Thanks

no, it is quite abnormal. XP should have no more than 40
but wait! you did not state which OS, so I had to make an assumption
okay, okay, enough with the browbeating ;-)
if it's Vista, it is normal, but no concern for alarm
most of the time your CPU will idle at <5%

if it is sitting doing nothing and >5% (task manager), then it is a cause for concern

I'd suggest a clean install, if you're willing to take the time to do it.

You must be running Vista. Do not worry, I have 105 processes running in Vista! 80 processes is not too bad.

I don't get it. You're a member of Vista x64 team, so you must know the fresh install will result in 80 processes alone. What gives?

On the first start, Lenovo had my W500 going with around 85-90 processes as well, a lot of Thinkvantage stuff that you may or may not want/need.

Clean install does not result in 80 procs running.

    Semantics.

I don't call popping in a Vista disk and saying it's done a clean install, with Device Manager full of red flags. That's why there are several Clean Install Guide threads running.

Chipset, Matrix Storage, Power Management, System Interface, Video, Audio, UltraNav, Wireless, Card Reader, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Fingerprint, Camera, Monitor, are all necessary.

Access Connections, Power Manager and Lenovo Fingerprint are the only Thinkvantage utilities I installed

And yes, it was ~80 processes after all this.
