Is that normal? I am coming from a notebook that had 33 processes and 77 seems a bit much. Is the only way to get rid of them to reinstall XP?

well no acctually you could always unistall the software that came along with the laptop and also check msconfig to check which processes start at start up

I guess, but I am afraid I will mess something up as I do not know what most of the stuff is called and would be afraid to uninstall something that is important. By the way is their a list some ware that has all of the software that comes with the Lenovos which I might not need?

When I got my T60, it had around 80 processes running. Then, I uninstalled that google stuff, Norton, and maybe something else. It went down to around 50 processes. As I was still not sure what else are installed on my computer, I decided to have a clean Vista installation with the Anytime Upgrade disc as described in another thread by Wolf (thanks!). After a clean Vista Home Premium installation yesterday, I had only around 35 processes running. I continued to install the drivers and utilities by Lenovo ( http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67026). And now I have around 50 processes running. I will continue to install a couple of extra utilities (client security center, and etc ). I am sure that some of the utilities do not need to be running all the time. So I will turn some of them off after all the installations. I am not sure how many processes I will end up with. But your number of processes (around 70) sounds quite normal to me, considering all Vista and Lenovo utilities are running.

If you are running XP, it seems too many to have 77 processes. On my current Toshiba notebook with XP Pro installed, I just have only 26 processes (including my own firewall, antivirus, and so on). If you add another 20 for Lenovo utilities, the total number of processess should be around 50(?).

Sorry, I can not remember the name of that pre-installed google application now. I tend to regard all those pre-installed third party trial applications as junks.

i guess the high numbers in the 80's are common in vista computers.

Hey cvec7 happy to see you got your lappy :) I was kind watching your post for a while hopping I did not have to go through the same ordeal.

Anyway 70-80 processes sounds a little high, I mean even if you have a bunch of Lenovo uts it couldn't account for some 70 odd processes. I think I am going to research this a little more and see what I can do. I mean there are a few things I really like such as the HDD protection and finger print software. But unless all of the drivers are being included in the processes 70 is just to much.

Yeah, I got mine on tuesday... had to go to the UPS depot at the airport to get it. But I'm glad I did. :D

Most of the processes on mine are actually windows ones...

refined power it seems like the number of processes running in the background for you wasnt that bad
i mean considering how many other users have going on

After playing around in msconfig a bit, I was able to get it down to 86 with trillian, firefox, itunes, and bittorrent running... I could go and disable some which I won't likely need like the bluetooth and a few other driver ones and get it down to 82 or so I bet... But mostly I think it's just Vista... I might do a clean-install over the summer anyway though..

After a clean installation of Vista Home Premium, I get 62 processes now with most of the Lenovo utilities and my own background processes (antivirus, defrag, and etc).

Just FYI. More and more things that were part of Windows kernel are moved to services to make the system more stable (broken service wont crash whole kernel). Therefore in Vista there are more process and there can be more in future versions.
