I have been doing some looking around for a hard drive upgrade and found this Seagate 750GB 7200rpm 7mm drive.

    Form Factor 2.5"
    Capacity 750 GB
    Interface Speed SATA III
    6Gb/s Flash Memory Capacity
    Speed 7200 RPM
    Cache 16 MB

Are there any other out there with this spec or better (i.e. 1TB / 32mb cache)?

The drive MUST be 7mm, because of X220 specs (I do not want to do the 9mm hack). There are a few out there with 5400rpm drive speed, but I am looking exclusively for 7200rpm. I would go for a hybrid drive at same specs if there is one available. 32mb cache would also be preferable, if it exists. Minimum size I need is 750GB.

My X220 is currently running a 320GB hard drive, with a 120gb MSATA for OS

I am based in UK, and would prefer to buy local.

    Thanks

The only other larger drive is the 1TB WD 7mm drive. I have this drive in my E7440 and had it my X220. It's a 5400RPM drive, but speed isn't as critical for storage as long as you're using the mSATA SSD as the boot drive.

TBH I haven't seen many 7200RPM HDDs for that size thus far (a couple of models tops from what I remember) - the only 1TB model I've seen is the WD 1TB 7mm HDD via Amazon UK (for £64.29p but temporarily out of stock) but that's the 5400RPM model with 16MB cache.

You could potentially purchase this one as a short-term measure until the 7200RPM models are released (whenever that will be) to keep you ticking over in terms of internal storage capacity and then resell it/re-use via external USB once an alternative 7200RPM HDD comes out - I hope it's of some help and fingers crossed you get sorted out.

@ Prostar Computer - Unfortunately the Travelstar 7K1000 HDDs you've listed are reported as being 9.5mm in height, which is to big for the X220 TP (it's maximum is 7mm). :(

Oops, missed that caveat. I don't think there is anything with similar specs to the Hitachi in a 7mm drive. :(

    Why not an SSD?

I put a Samsung 840 in my X220 and its the bees knees. I'm about to upgrade my Intel 310 MSATA to a Samsung MSATA and then will be rocking 1TB of SSD in my machine.

From my POV (I'll be shortly upgrading my X220 as well) the factor is cost - an HDD is a cheaper storage solution rather than purchasing an SSD for the main HDD bay whilst a cheaper 240GB/250GB MSATA SSD is more than sufficient for hosting the OS & various applications required.
