    That Samsung is the fastest quiet 7200rpm drive. Hitachi 7K500 is also a good choice for a data/media drive, but the Samsung is faster as an OS drive.

    Didn't Western Digital buy Hitachi GST? Maybe the WD drives will soon be re-branded Hitachi drives.

    Second the Samsung, have one in my T61 and never had a problem with it and it's quite fast. Just bought a T420 with the cheapest 5400rpm hard drive option with plans to upgrade to SSD in a month or so, but am now thinking of throwing my hdd from the T61 into the T420 in the mean time.
