Can anyone tell me if the 90W power adapter would charge my X201 faster than a 65W power adapter?

I haven't really tested it personally, but several people here say their batteries charge faster with a 90W adapter versus a 65W.
-
Yes, the 90W charges the X201 batteries faster than the 65W. To give you an idea, it charges my 4, 6, and 9-cell batteries in approximately 2, 3, and 4 hrs, respectively (plus/minus 30 min, depending on the drain level - starting from 5-15% - and whether I use the X201 during charging or not). I can only give you a comparison with the 65W for the 6 cell battery, which is ~4 hrs (don’t use it that much). Also, the 90W supports processor hyperthreading if you use AC without a battery installed, whereas the 65W does not.

Here wattage translates directly into charging current for the battery.

Speaking of wattage, I bought some cheap AC charger from eBay, that claimed to be 65 W. When I plugged it in, the ThinkVantage toolbox reports its actually 90 W. I don't have it here so I can't look up the exact product number (it's hooked up to Ultrabase in my office).
Does that matter at all? I always keep the battery in. -
on a side note, i tried the 135 watt adapter, it does not charge the battery any faster than the 90 watt adapter.

65 watt adapter with no battery attached will disable the turbo boost feature. While, the 90 watt adapter + no battery will still allow the CPU to utilise the turboboost feature (provided you have the i5 and i7 CPU).

Please do forgive my hastiness! TB mode that is, not HT.

Damn you Thinkpad keyboard! You allow me to type faster than I can think!!! -
thanks everyone for the information
i'm assuming the 90W is bigger and heavier than the 65W adapter...can anyone give me a comparison? anyone have an image handy? thanks in advance -
The 90W slim is exactly the same VOLUME as the 65W stock, similar HEIGHT and DOUBLE the width. Imagine the stock 65W thinkness cut in the middle, and the 2 slices put side-by-side. There is another 90W adapter (not slim), but I have not seen that one live (I don't know which one you refer to).
Images, check here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/526192-thinkpad-accessories.html
Check again- I put up some fresh ones to compare the 90W slim and the 65W stock.
WEIGHT is unnoticeably greater for the 90W slim... -
Posted corrected. I have a picture comparison of the 65, 90, 135 watt adapter on my yfrog account.

he he he... lead collects everything with an IBM/Lenovo/ThinkPad name on it!!!

i won't collect ideapads even if they have a Lenovo logo on it, i am not sure about the edge series either, they are too avantgarde for me.
It seems Lenovo changes the logo design and their placement on the laptop charger every two year or so. -

I'm sorry to bump this thread, but I just got a X200 tablet and here is what I see in the Power Manager battery tab:
1. Using 135W shows 65W AC adapter is atached.
2. Using 90W shows 90W AC adapter is atached.
3. 65W is as is.
So I was thinking that using a 135W will limit the power on the X200T to 65W, or I might be missing something here. -
you may need to update the bios on the tablet, to get it recognise the 135 watt adapter, i use my X200 with a 135 watt adapter when it is on the desk, and it was recognised only after a bios update.
-
I do have the latest BIOS update on my X200T - 7WET69WW (3.19 ), and still get the same results.
Btw, I am using the ultrabase dock. Will check if I get the same behavior once I get undocked later. -
Update:
I have confirmed that the X200 Ultrabase dock is causing this kind of behavior.
I get 135W read via power manager by directly connecting the adapter to the unit.
This is an interesting find for me. Not sure if my ultrabase bahavior is how it should work and I don't have a spare ultrabase to test this.
