Does anyone know if this 65w adapter will work with my T400 which normally uses a 90w adapter. What limitations or problems might I encounter? Thanks.

90w adapters are for Thinkpad's with discrete graphics. Since the T400 is switchable you can get away with a 65w if you put your computer on the intel graphics.

Technically, even the T400 on discrete graphics mode should run fine on a 65W adapter if you are not charging your battery and do not have too many devices plugged in, although it would be pushing towards the upper end.
But as StealthTH said, you should run on integrated graphics just to be safe. -

Both will work. I have a T61 with Nvidia card. Use the 65W when traveling and the 90W when not. The only difference is the 65W will take longer to charge your TP. Had also called Lenovo technical support to ask before doing this. They replied the way I explained in the preceding sentence. I dont see why switchable graphics would be a factor.

+1 on other conversations.
I use a 65W (if needed) when out and about and 90W when home.
