I just noticed this morning - there is a "save $250 until Dec 1 2008" on the 64GB and 128GB SSD upgrade options (at least for the X and T series). This makes the upgrade from an 80GB 5400rpm HDD to the super fast samsung 64GB SSD just $249 or less if you qualify for EPP etc.

On the Canadian site it is still a $579 upgrade :(

I'm guessing that this will be an option that many choose now as this is really a great price! Use an external HDD to store all your huge movie files and 64GB is plenty of room for many users.

Edit: the 64GB Samsung SSD being shipped for this sale is not the SLC version that we've seen in the X300 series but a slower MLC version. Still fast and reliable but obviously not as fast as the SLC version.

The 128GB is Samsung MLC, the only good MLC drive other than the Intel.

X200 with SSD + ultrabase with SATA drive bay adapter and a 500GB 2.5" HDD is a perfect combo.

    BUMP and an update

Apparently the 64GB SSD being shipped for this great price is NOT the SLC version that we've seen in the X300 series but rather a slower MLC version.

Unfortunately this cools the deal somewhat :(

    I would imagine so, yes.

Keep in mind that the MLC Samsung is still very very fast - just not as fast as an SLC version obviously.

Maybe I was a bit too negative when I said that the drive being MLC cools the deal somewhat. It is still only a ~$200 - $250 upgrade right now (depending if you can order as an employee, student, visa cardholder, etc) which in my mind is still a great deal for a high quality SSD.

Yeah I guess that's true. Atleast it's better than those OCZ or Patriot SSDs, or has a better reputation.,..
