MSFT retail site says Ultimate comes in both 32 and 64 bit versions in the SAME box. Can Lenovo config with 64 bit or do I have the option to switch to 64 if it ships with 32? Thanks.

from what i hear only the retail version have that option. you can't legally upgrade to 64bit from OEM. But the key will work.

An OEM key cannot 'change' its bitness...and no, it will not work if you try to install 64bit with a 32bit key. You'll either have to configure it direct with Levono (if that is even an option) or buy a new copy.

If you want to install a 64 bit version of Vista with a key from an OEM x86 version it will work. So...

The 32bit key will not work on a 64bit.

According to this thread the 32-bit key will work when upgrading to 64-bit Vista.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=144783

NOTE: You can choose to have 32-bit Vista or 64-bit Vista regardless of what version you currently have installed.

EDIT: Upon further reading the process works because actually no key is entered. The activation is done via "activation_restore.exe".
