Can this also be used for 32 bit? IE can use for either 64 bit or 32 bit clean install? Can purchase only from COMPUSA? I read the posts on here saying that many people ordered but did not receive? Any other reliable source for the same price? Tks.

PS Any software that will not work with 64 bit ie Office 2K?

can only be used for 64 bit and mine came within a few days. it's 5 bucks shipped from them, is it worth all the effort to find it elsewhere?

There is a lot of software that is broken when you move to 64-bit os. If you do a search there are other more eloquent threads on the subject than my poor prose can muster. I can tell you drivers can be problematic, although Lenovo has all of those but if you have perpherials that are older or software that uses older code watch out. There are improvements in security besides performance. I have read 10 percent is a number people are quoting for speed increase. I don't use 64-bit yet, but I might give it a whirl.

I thought the 64 bit comes with a "32 bit shell" so that 32 bit apps can be run? Read it somewhere but if it no workee then no usey.

Seems that Vista 64 bit can run 32 bit softwares (like office) through emulation, but drives need to be written for 64 bit environment anyway.

They will let you know within a few days if they can't fulfill it. Just order it! It's only five dollars! I ordered mine about a month ago and received in 3-5 days.

That is what I heard about the emulation. I am wondering if old programs like Turbo Tax will work on it. Also will Zone Alarm (free version) run properly. What do you mean by "drives need to be written"?

Doesn't matter. Lenovo has drivers. ZoneAlarm will probably run.

Yes it does come with a 32-bit emulation shell, but it is tricky to get all your 32 bit apps to work in this environment. A great of my apps broke in 64-bit when I had it running for 2 days on a desktop at work so I moved back.

    Sorry, not from USA...
I meant the drives to control external devices need to be developed for a 64 bit system. No emulation to run drives (I guess… don’t know why).
