hi, Since i am going to buy R60 and 512 MB RAM seems not enough, i wanna know which of the followings is better for upgrading RAM:

    1. buying another 512 DDR2 KINGSTON from NEWEGG for about 65$
    2. let LENOVO installs 1GB 1 nonparity, which costs 90$, lets one slot free, but probably the brand is not as good as KINGSTON. (which brand was shipped with your thinkpads?)

dont u think that 512+512 increases memory bandwith instead of the 1 gb but if u were to buy 1*1 gb it would be easier for you to upgrade later

Well yeah but he seems to be talking about future upgrades so I would say go with the 1GB. If you are not planning on upgrading ever than 512 512 will be fine, I still say you should stay away from Kingston however.

i guess the $25 will help the laptop to be future proof in terms of upgrades and its ultimately worth it by the airman did u have any bad eperience with kingston? :)

Bad experiences...well no but I find that it is very slow in comparison to say Micron which is what my older HP shipped with.

    the manufacturers RAM is reliable

Plus you get the long warranty on the ram (same as the laptop), which is NOT the case for aftermarket stuff.

Some posters have bought RAM from NewEgg then claimed it was incompatible with their Thinkpad, even tho the specs were correct.

I'd recommmend getting the the 1-stick of 1 gig pre-installed, so you have a free RAM slot open for later. When you buy on the phone, ask for a price break on the RAM and you will get it.

Also... be sure to get an extra AC adapter at the time of ordering - and ask for a deep price cut on that too. I got extra adapters for $25. They are super-convenient to have extras.

Example...One for at home, one for at work. then you dont have to carry an ac adapter to & from work.

SkiBunny, you mean if i call lenovo and say i want RAM at a lower price they accept it and will sell it at a lower price than what they have mentioned in their site ?

Yes, quite possibly. I know they have discounted extras. But only when you buy extra at the same time you're purchasing the laptop.

SkiBunny, i am a little bit confused, since 1 GB RAM is listed in the LENOVO site as one of customization options, u mean i should not order the notebook online and instead, do it by calling them ?

    yes. call.
Ask for a bit of a price break on the extra ram or ac adapter, case or whatever.
Don't expect them to give it away, but usually you can get sometihing off for the extras.
If not, hang up and try again later lol

i would go for 1gb stick since you are planning to use it for 4 yrs (and it is from Lenovo, less hassle i would say).

Get the 1 GB module. If you decide to upgrade to 2 GB in the future you can just get another 1 GB stick.

512+512 since the question isn't phrased as 1024+1024 as a future option. The dual channel configuration is a noticable difference. Of course go 1024+1024 if that's possible...the more the merrier!

If you'd like a docking solution on one end (home network or peripherals to plug in all the time?), pick up a ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock (comes with its own AC adapter).

I guess, but the AC adapter is lots cheaper, and most ppl dont need a dock.
