The Y580 - 209945 is only $999.20 today.(us) It was only $150 off yesterday at $1400+. This is a pretty good deal guys. This one has the 1080 screen and 7200rpm Hd. The other configs are still at the 7 days of deals prices and most more than this config.

Wow, this is the model I ordered almost three weeks ago (for a higher price) and it still hasn't even shipped yet. I guess a benefit is that they sure as hell better apply this discount to my order now.

Thanks for the heads up man. With the B&N deal, it's $935, which is amazing.

What are your guys thoughts on that model in particular vs. the others?

Is the 500 GB 7200 rpm drive a much better option than the 1 TB 5400 rpm + 32 GB SSD that is $150 more?

I've been itching to trigger the gun on buying the Y580 watching the deals and this is probably the best one yet.

You can't actually use the 32GB for storage I believe. It just serves as a cache.

The 500gb 7200rpm works for me, and in the future I'll probably switch out the BR drive for a 128/256gb SSD.

I see, so the fact that it is so much cheaper and it's still a 7200 rpm over a 5400 rpm drive makes it a better option and not worth paying extra for the extra space/SSD cache drive?

Also are you getting extra warranty (esp. the accidental protection)?

Lenovo has affordable warranty. I would get the 3 year. With the way laptops overheat a 3 year is not a bad way to go. As for accidental depends if you want to drop it in a couple years and get a new one. :D

the mSATA SSD cache makes a HUGE difference. the 5400rpm + mSSD will be a lot faster than 7200rpm by itself. But this would be great if you plan to put in a SSD yourself down the road.

Don't know about Y580, but you can set the 32GB SSD as a boot drive on Asus and HP.
