This looks like a good deal for brand-name memory, the specs seem to suggest that it would work in a T61P, but it only references a few computers.

you have to find out what type and speed ram module the T61P uses/accepts
that type of module on newegg is PC2 5300 with a speed of 667, so if the T61P uses or will accept that type and speed .. than use it. -
Pretty much all modern notebooks will accept that RAM, but not all can utilize it. Only 64-bit operating systems can use 4GB of RAM, if you don't have a 64-bit OS, then only about 3.2GB will be used. You'll be good to do with that Ram though.
-
The specs look to be correct, I don't see why it wouldn't work. PC2-5300 or PC2-6400, max of 2GB per slot, 2 slots total.
As Ark states, unless you are using (or planning to use) a 64bit OS, your system will only see a little over three. However, at these prices, who cares
Some folks have had problems with 4GB installed, so if you have a 1GB DIMM now, you may want to install one the 2GB modules and an existing 1GB module if you have any stability issues. I had some issues with my T61p with the planar, but it was happening with all memory combinations, not just with 4GB. -
I am using XP, but I probably will be using Linux on this machine when/if the issues with Ubuntu are solved.
I don't want to cause problems for the machine, but while my machine is under warranty, I do want to make sure the system will take a full compliment of ram. -
4GB OCZ Ram for $59.99 after a $30.00 rebate from Fry's.

That's almost free. Good find Klutch.

The linked ram is PC5400, but they have pc5300. I don't know if the faster ram would work.
-
The outpost RAM is PC5400, and not PC5300.
-
They are both interchangeable. Some companies like to round the number differently is all.

Ooooh. My T61p with Vista Business x64 thanks you! -

Well, I bought the Fry's RAM. It was an interesting story. I have a Fry's 4 blocks from my house. When I arrived there, they quoted me a price $30 higher than the pre-rebate price, like $116.
So, I went home, and ordered the ram, first looking at 2nd day shipping, but then trying the "pick up" option, which was the original price, but with tax. I brought the quote to Frys, and they sold me the RAM.
The rebate link is dead, so is the "mail me a rebate form," but someone in online sales emailed a copy. I hope this RAM works in my T61P, after all this fuss.
I looked at the ram, lots of edgecard connections on it. -

Looking at compatibility lists are a waste of time. If it is 200-pin DDR2 667mhz PC-5300 or 5400 SODIMM RAM it will work. If it doesn't then you should run memtest86+ because it is probably faulty.
BTW, don't pay for a brand name. Laptop RAM ALL use the same micron chips. Get the cheapest RAM you can find that comes with a lifetime warranty. If you pay for the name, you threw money out the window.
You get what you pay for with Desktop RAM. However, laptop RAM is all the same. As long as it comes with a lifetime warranty. -
I forget what Lenovo wanted for the 4GB upgrade back in August when my T61p shipped, but it was a frightening number.
Edit: Have just done a T61p quote for giggles; it's *still* a frightening number. . . $440 extra for 4GB rather than 2GB. Whee, etc. -

Thanks to Brenda, I duplicated her sequence of events and walked down to Fry's this morning. My 4GB of RAM is now in its 3rd hour of Mem86test v1.70 testing with no errors. Looks great.
Last day.....everybody.....take advantage of this great price.

Glad to see everyone take advantage of the deal and no worries on the memory, lifetime warranty rocks.

Wish I had done that. I drove down to Fry's the day I ordered mine and the best deal they had was $86 for 4GB of Patriot. I bought the 4GB Kingston just because Newegg also had a pretty good deal on 2GB Kingston, which I purchased to max out my wife's HP. Figured I rather deal with one company if I ever had to use the lifetime warranty. Plus, for some reason, I have yet to find anyone who seems to have quality issues with Kingston memory...seems universally compatible and hardly ever has problems, per the user reviews I've read. Fortunately, UPS lost the package for a couple of days, and when I called Newegg about it they immediately offered $15 off the order, which was credited immediately to my credit card. Newegg has outstanding service. But still...$60 for 4 GB...wow, great deal!

The Fry's OCZ memory arrived here (Minnesota) on Friday, and has been working splendidly since. The rebate is already in the mail (to another MN address, as it turns out!).
So far so good! -
The RAM at Frys was OCZ branded, perhaps still made at the same plant.
Anyway, the first set I bought was wonky. I exchanged it.
I installed another pair, which works fine. I have had the machinedoing SETI, 100% CPU on both cores, overnight with no problems. -
Newegg also has 4Gb PQI for $63 after rebate...
Its marked as PC5400 rather than 5300 but it is the same thing.
4GB Kingston Ram for $84.99, But will it work in T61P?
