    4.5 gigs of ibm junk?

    there is a 4.5 gig partition on my 60gig t42. Do i need this? Can i erase it? I want to add a 2gig linux partition and it wont seem to let me

    That 4.5 GB partition of "junk" is your recovery partition. Since your laptop probably didn't come with system discs, that's all you have if your OS gets messed up.

    If you're looking to install Linux you can do so without getting rid of this partition. Installers for some popular distributions (such as Ubuntu and Mandriva) can resize NTFS partitions.

    Why doesn't IBM give you CD's? Would it really have been so hard?

    do i really need the recovery partition?
    i guess so.
    im trying to install debian, can anyone recommend a good repartitioner for my c:

    If you boot into DOS, you can delete it using fdisk at least that is what I did on my T42.

    I just made an image of the entire disk, as soon as i got it. That way, i can restore the disk to TRUE factory state
