Now that I have my t43, I'd like to upgrade to 2GB RAM at once.

Any tips please on which brand would be most suitable? I have already had crucial and kingston recommended to me -- which is better? Any other recommendations?

The t43 manual talks about the notebook giving a warning beep at bootup if incompatible memory is fitted.. does it happen with 3rd party memory of appropriate specifications?

Any insights will be highly appreciated! Thanks,

yes, it will "beep" at you if it's unhappy with any memory, Crucial has a nice memory finder on their site and I recommend that as you already know. NewEgg.com has some good prices too and you could look there.

2GB is probably overkill unless you have a specific need. I'd get it at NewEgg or ZipZoomFly unless you'd like to pay more.

abaxter and zazonz, thanks! I will look for the Crucial memory finder, that sounds great

zazonz, I will be editing 35mm scans in photoshop @ 48 bit/5400 DPI from my film scanner, each about 220MB in size. So I figured I would do good to upgrade to 2GB right away.

Well it won't hurt if you don't mind spending the extra.

Personally I would buy it elsewhere. They pretty will gouge you on IBM. If you buy from a good brand like Corsair, Kingston or Crucial you'll be in good shape. I even put some KingMax memory in my old T41, it worked fine.

On the subject of RAM upgrades... I'm planning on putting this Crucial 512MB stick into my T42. It seems as if it should be fine. One thing I want to doublecheck is the timings. CPU-Z currently shows the timings on my Samsung RAM as 2.5-3-3-7. Crucial only lists the CAS latency of their RAM, which is 2.5, as with mine. Does it mean that the other timings will be the same too?
