I've been reading about RAM and I found out that if 2 modules are not the same size, they will run in single channel mode. Has lenovo fixed this... since they are offering 3GB on 2 DIMMS?
-
2 Modules that are not identical in size will not run in dual channel mode. Get 4GB, even if you are using a 32 bit OS it will run in dual channel.
EDIT: I was wrong, See Andy's post. -
OMG i need to call Lenovo then ! those asses........ why are they offering 3 GB!!!
-
Difference in performance is minimal. Plus, if I am getting 3GB, I would rather just replace the 1GB stick someday than replace both sticks. Just my opinion.
-
They will run in Dual Channel mode.
2+2 --> Symmetric DC (23% boost in bandwidth)
2+1 --> Asymmetric DC (20% boost in bandwidth)
(Intel Flex Memory)
Anyway, there is no noticeable affect on performance with DC....
(Sym/Asym/No DC, you won't notice any affect on performance) -
Minimal? lol
-
wow, well anyways.. if im comparing to my current system which is 400MHz DDR, im sure the DDR3 1066MHZ more than make up for the 3% speed loss.
-
DDR3-800/DDR3-1066....Not a noticeable difference in performance.
If you have 3GB DDR3-800, no need to upgrade.... -

This thread is a great example of why it is important to qualify that what you've read actually is still valid in the face of new technology and new chipsets.

Dual Channel Ram guide
You can confirm Dual Channel functionality using CPUz/Sandra 2009/PC Wizard/Everest Ultimate....
I am not sure about the compatiblity of the above tools with the fairly new GM/PM45 GMCHs, so have a look at the GM45 datasheet, and I think you may come across Intel Flex Memory. -
GREAT, didn't really consider that.

Thanks Andy.
