    Lenovo options can be irritating!

I've had great help from Johnlumpkin and others regarding the config of a X200s elite that I'm considering. After going all out and nearly ready to buy I realised that the WXGA+ LED screen looses the camera and 3g modem. I remember reading that in a forum thread, but it didn't occur to me 'till I just checked.

The camera is no biggy for me, but I wanted to stop carrying my USB 3G modem around with me. Another choice that will probably take me a week to decide on. I like the idea of an WXGA+ LED screen and the new roll cage (it's a definite upgrade from my Samsung Q45), but should I go for the WXGA & 3G/cam and satisfy more of my usability needs?

Are there any 3G modems that can be retrofitted? Expresscard is an option but think everything will still need to be plugged in to act as antenna and therefore won't be much different from what I do now.

call lenovo, I'll bet the slot is there. it's just lenovo's webpage that is confusing. if you configure than buy over the phone you could get the same unit + the 3G.

Thanks I'll give them a try - but I don't think you can actually buy thinkpads over the phone from Lenovo UK - I think they only have an online store. Will call anyway.

my recommendation is to get a hires screen. there's nothing more frustrating than having a low-res screen on a laptop, i think even if you had to give up the integrated 3g you'd be happier.

think this way: 3g modem, you'd use maybe 10% of the time. webcam - 1%. but you're staring at the screen 100% of the time.

Good way of looking at the conundrum Sean. I've emailed Lenovo and 3G is definitely not available in the WXGA+ config. I had a bit of a moan saying that on a machine that is high end and primarily aimed at mobile business users then it should be standard. The answer was thanks but 'no' it's not an option in that config :)

Now time to think before I hammer the CC. Our current spring sale ends 15th May. Wish I knew what promos were in the pipeline for the rest of the year.

Well it is not as if there are absolutely no mobile options with WWAN from lenovo. But yes I think it should be in the x200 and x200s even if they couldn't fit it in.

If you shell out for the X301 you CAN get WXGA+ webcam and 3G. But then only 6cell battery and it seems no where near the battery life of an X200s with the 9 cell.
