This is the one thing, well besides FSB, that i don't get. What is the difference?
Should i wait for the 64 bit?

well most processors (core 2 duo and above) have 64 bit processors. I don't know much about what is going on, but I'd imagine there are 64 literal processors on the chip. obviously when you have a program that uses 64 bits, it'll utilize the full potential of the chip and everything will run faster compared to a program that uses 32 bits, which would nto be using the chip to its full potential. it'll still be faster than a 32 bit chip, but it won't be completely efficient.

64bit VS 32 bit. The difference is that 64bit can address oodles of RAM due to its 64bit registers. In a nutshell, it can take in 128GB of RAM (Vista Business, Enterprise, Ultimate limited them, although it can address more than that). Not sure about XP x64.

64bit are also slightly faster depending on the applications you are running. It maintains the 32bit application compatibility too. Also, 64bit drivers are rather good with the Vista.

adding to system64's comments i would like to say it would usually help speed up multithreaded applications ad programs that support 64bit and it would help futureproof your laptop to an extent too though as of now not many programs offer 64bit applications theres bound to be more intresting developments in the future
therefore almost all the new processors from AMD and intel support it

If you get Vista Ultimate pre-installed from Lenovo you get the 32bit version, right? If so, can you then upgrade it to 64? How??
    Thanks for your help!

    yes its usually 32-bit
i reckon youll have to buy the CD from them by paying extra
either from lenovo if its available or from other third parties like online dealers
    etc.

Thanks a lot for your reply! I'll contact Lenovo to see how I can do it (that is once I finally get my T61 which is, of course, delayed)

HERE IS HOW IT IS DONE:

Don't quote me, but if you want 64-bit Vista on any version (I'm 99% sure it can be done with Ultimate). I think you can do it if you do a clean install using a 64-bit version disk (if you know someone that has it) and use the product key on your laptop to active it. The product key you use has to be the one stored on your system, found using "Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder" http://www.magicaljellybean.com/beta/ NOT THE PRODUCT KEY ON THE STICKER.

    Then use these guides:

and this will help with drivers...

I plan to do this when I get mine.... who knows when that will be.

I was also told by a sales rep that if you buy Vista Ultimate from Lenovo for the T61 that it is 64-bit. I don't really believe that, but we'll see when I get mine.
