Hey all, sorry to be vague but my wifi connection has become very erratic. I can't be sure if it's the wireless card/antenna, my dsl provider, the network card, the wireless router, or something else. The symptoms are that it will intermittently fail to connect to the preferred network, and when this happens, the computer will only see zero to maybe two wireless networks, instead of the eight or ten it normally sees (I live in a dense area of San Francisco). It always eventually comes back (I'm obviously online again) but I'm getting very frustimicated  I can't figure out why the number of available networks would vary. The wireless and network cards say they are working normally and the drivers are all up to date. I have reset the wireless router settings from scratch a couple of times, and this seemed to work but I don't really think that is the cause and it's a pain in the a$$ to do, plus once it did not work. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted. Thanks.

Have you tried changing wireless channels on your router?

what wireless card do you have? what router do you have? you may actually want to lower the power and tweak the roaming on your card. this may take out some of the noise from the other routers in your area.

Thanks you guys for the replies.
    Yes.
It's an Intel 3945ABG and a Buffalo WHR-G54. A cheap but supposedly solid router that you can't get any more. Free Buffalo 24/7 phone support helped me solve this a couple of times, but I don't really think it's the router's fault although of course I could be wrong. Re: lowering the power, when I'm having the problem, my own network sometimes is one of the few listed, sometimes it's not. It seems totally random, and refreshing the network list will sometimes bring it up again and sometimes not.

Edit: I just checked the list and I see nine wireless networks, although many of them have zero or one bar.

Edit 2: I should mention that this has happened three times in four weeks, just to give you an idea of the frequency.
