This is my first laptop sans recovery CD. I know that the recovery info is in a partition on the HD, but can I burn this onto a DVD? If so, do I need to copy the info to a USB drive and then burn it from the full system?
I want it for security and also if I desire to upgrade the drive.
Thanks

You can burn off the recovery DVDs which will restore your notebook to its original state. You can use something like True Image to make an Image of the drive if you like.

I can't actually remember but press the Lenovo Access Button and I believe that in there is the process to create your recovery disks.
Hope this helps! -
Either use the access button or go to start/programs.. /I think lenovo care and you will seee make recovery cd's... I used a dvd.. so it is 1 cd to boot and 1 dvd.. .

On a ThinkPad X60 with a DVD burner you can create a set of recovery disks (1 CD, 1 DVD) by following the steps below. I assume that this is the same or similar with a Lenovo 3000:
- Go to Start - All Programs - ThinkPad - ThinkVantage - Create Recovery Media.
- Select "Create a set of Product Recovery discs now", click OK.
- Files are decompressed, which takes several minutes.
- At "Select recordable drive" dialog, select DVD burner, click OK.
- Insert blank CD, click OK.
- Files are written to CD, CD is ejected.
- Remove CD and label "Rescue and Recovery Startup Disc".
- Insert blank DVD, click OK.
- Files are written to DVD, DVD is ejected.
- Remove DVD and label "Product Recovery Disc".
- Click OK.
- "Recording completed successfully", click OK.
- "Process completed successfully", click OK.
