I'm looking at these two. The x60s certainly looks cool, but I think it might have a lot of features I don't need and costs $500-600 more. Is it worth it? I am a grad student planning to be mobile from school to home etc with my notebook every day. My main uses are standard browsing, wordprocessing, though I do stream a lot of audio. So I'm trying to decide which is best for a student planning to write very long (yikes!) research papers with some multimedia desires.

Big Q about the EVDOO. Is it worth it? is this a tech that I should get now for the future, or could I install at a later point?

    THANKS!!!

EVDO is like broadband over a cell connection. Unless you always use a computer on the go, its not going to be replacing anything like cable modems and other home broadband stuff.

The x60 has the best keyboard on a ultraportable.

I'm gonna toss in a T60/T43 14" in there too. It is still very portable and doesn't cost quite as much. Being a grad student, you need all the exercise you can get, so hauling an extra pound or two is good for you!

Thanks. I'll take a looke at the t60.

The battery life seems the real difference between a lot of these.

And how/why should I choose widescreen vs standard btwn these models?

    Thanks!

    i think...

if you're going to work on multiple word files (3 or more), go with the widescreen... shows more windows you are working on.

if you're working with 2 word files at a time, go with the standard screen. you can easily alt-tab your way with them i guess.

since you've said that you want to be mobile, go with the X60s. slimmer form factor with greater battery life. you're not mobile if your stuck in a corner charging and working with your laptop at the same time. just don't forget the ultrabase in case you need to burn something.

doesn't EVDO cost too much?... hmmm i guess you can afford that

IMO, the X60s is the best in it's class.

    THanks

I've looked at the t60 and I think that might be the best. I don't think it will be too heavy and I like the features to value. Couple Qs.

Should I get it with the 1.86 or 2.15 chip?

Would you recommend the high res screen/graphics? or if I'm mostly just web surfing is it not worth it?

    Thanks

Definetly the 1.83GHz. You'll likely never notice a difference between the two. The high resolution screen will allow you to see more of the screen which some people like myself like, but everyone is different. I think the best course of action is to check some out if you can. You might find this useful.

I'd recommend the high res screen (it's what I have). If you don't need a good graphics solution for 3d work/play, then go for the XGA+ with the X1300.
