I'm going to the US in the near future and I'm thinking about picking up another Thinkpad X61.
However, is it possible to buy a ThinkPad in the US with 3 years international warranty (carry-in)? If not can it be purchased afterwards? I have looked at the information on the Lenovo website and it seems a bit unclear.
The two X61's I bought in Thailand came with this 3 year international warranty. I could however not expand the warranty further - i.e. add on-site international warranty - but I can definitely live with that.

Anyone buying a TP and taking it outside the US, please be more careful than I was and check the IWS(international warranty service) eligibility. Get the machine details, (basically just the 4-digit type number) and check it at:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=LOOK-IWS#sw
It will tell you which countries(and service numbers) are the machine eligible to receive warranty in.
This was why i had to return the ordered T61, type 6465, as it was only covered in the US. If you are ordering from the lenovo website, they offer a customizable 6459 T61 system that is covered in many countries.
