Long story here, but I'll summarize up front by saying that I received a shipment notice by email yesterday evening for one order containing one X61s. UPS says I have three boxes coming. Is that normal?

    Now for the weird details...
    Order 1:
On 6/16 I bought my wife an X61s through an affiliate site via SPP (I am an actual shareholder :) ) It was assigned order# 2C***5. ESD at checkout time was 6/29/2007, and it changed to 7/6 shortly after. On 7/6 it changed to 7/23. A few minutes after the order, I received an email confirmation from Lenovo. Within 24 hours the affiliate site had a record with details that matched my Lenovo order exactly. Like many others, the total was screwed up and did not reflect the SPP discount, but I planned to just take it up with AmEx after I had the goods in hand.

    Order 2:
On 6/18 I bought myself the same X61s through the same affiliate site via EPP (because it worked out to $9 less). ESD at checkout time was 6/30/2007, and shortly after it changed to 7/19. A few minutes later, I got the email confirmation from Lenovo, and within 24 hours the affiliate site again showed a transaction exactly matching my new Lenovo order. The morning of 7/5 I called Lenovo and cancelled this order because our Dell rep at work hooked me up with a good XPS M1330 deal. As of today, the order still shows up as open with an ESD of 7/19.

    Mystery Order
Yesterday evening I received a shipment notice from Lenovo for the 3 UPS packages mentioned up top, and my credit card was charged 1,305.73. The order# referenced in the email was 2C***4, which is very close to my Order 1 (i.e. it differs by one digit) but the problem is, it's an order I never placed! When I check the order details on Lenovo's site, it's the exact same configuration as my Order 1 with the exact same order date. However, it's just not possible that I placed this order myself because 1) I received no confirmation email for it; 2) it doesn't show up in my clickthrough history on the affilate site I mentioned; and 3) Lenovo.com was getting hammered in mid-June and there's no way I could have gotten in two separate orders quickly enough to be assigned consecutive order numbers.

The questions running through my head in no particular order are:
    - Does one X61s ship in 3 separate boxes??
    - Is Lenovo so screwed up that they duped my original order? Did they have to manually re-enter it for some reason and then forget to delete the original?
    - Since 3 boxes are on the way, is Lenovo so extra screwed up that they fulfilled both of my original orders early and just haven't updated the order status on their web site?
    - If I was shipped 3 separate X61s notebooks, is there any way to figure out which box corresponds to which order without opening up the box? I'm guessing that I could just refuse shipment on Order 2 and the "mystery order."
    - How can I ever explain this mess to a CSR if I try to call up Lenovo?

    Any opinions out there?
