Hi guys, I just ordered the T520 21th April, seems like it will be shipped 12th May. It's 3 weeks!!! I wonder how long does it take for you guys?

BTW, I wonder why there is not many people here having T520, it is a much cheaper W520 with FHD screen. Why pay more for its AutoCAD discrete card?

I ordered a w520 on the 19th Originally said estimated ship date of may may 4 changed to may 2 today. Only changes on the default quad core mchine were 1 dimm instead of 2 quadro 2000 and intel centrino ultimate.

Ordered an x120e on 4/14. Original estimated shipping date was 4/28, but they moved me back to 5/4. =\
I picked the E-240 $399 base config and upgraded the CPU to E-350 for $40. With the CPU upgrade it's exactly the same as the $450 E-350 config.

Well, you did change the graphics card, I guess it takes some time. I am thinking my FHD screen takes some time.

I ordered a T420 with Optimus graphics on 4/13. Original estimated shipping date was 4/26. It shipped out on 4/19 and should make it to my door by 4/26.

Generally, Lenovo's site gives the long estimate. I'm sure they do this because sometimes parts shortages or high demand can change ship times, and they'd rather give you that long estimate and deliver faster than fail to meet a date they've given at time of order.

Occasionally, they push back the ship date too. Usually this is due to unforeseen circumstances, like a supply-chain problem (just as an example, what if an important part comes from an area of Japan hit by the earthquake/tsunami?)

They do take longer than Dell --but Dell has assembly plants in North America, benefiting US/Canadian/Mexican customers, and Lenovo does not.

Talk about timing! I should get my T420 on that date too though I ordered mine on the 15th April. It's currently being departed from Hong Kong now, maybe we can compare to each others T420 once it arrives on our doorstep! :D

Mine's just left Anchorage, Alaska. I had figured on it taking longer through US Customs there, but it was only a day, so it will likely make it on the 25th now. :)

Since I have this Friday off, I'm going to be spending some of my free time backing up the data from my T400 to get ready.

Customs takes place in KY. It will go from AK to KY, where it will stay a day (at least in my case), that next day it will go through customs and to your state. Overall with standard shipping it took 3 or 4 days to get from HK to IL

I thought it could take place in either. US Customs does have a location in Anchorage. I could be incorrect, though.

3-4 days is an improvement over my last two ThinkPads by about a day or two. Most of that delay was in Customs. I didn't order at peak traffic times (generally early to mid summer), so perhaps Customs has gotten more efficient.

I ordered my T420 on 4/12 and it is now currently in Kentucky! They said the ship date would be 4/22 but it shipped from China earlier this week.

Well, they are giving out discounts like candy. It's no surprise they are swamped. Have you seen the discounts the students are getting in the other thread? It's almost like Lenovo is giving X220 away for manufacturing cost.

I have no idea why they do it. Perhaps they want to saturate the market before their major competitors in HP and Dell ship similar models. Otherwise I don't see why this high volume - low margin business model makes sense for business laptops.

Mine arrived to KY on the 20th and just departed on the 22nd. Should arrive to OH by the end of the 22nd.

I'm a bit worried that they assembled the laptop poorly as it only took ONE day from the "process" to ''ship".

I talked to a rep, and she told me the delayed is caused by the 250gb hdd shortage.

The lead-time is ridiculous to the modern day standard.

I did a T520 with a quad core, full 1080p screen, and nvidia graphics. Originally said it would be 2 weeks, it shipped 2 days later, and with the extra shipping upgrade I literally got it from China to Cincinnati in TWO days. UPS is amazing.

Ordered T420 on 4/18; given ship date of 5/4 and got email today saying its shipped. This is normal for IBM/Lenovo. Every TP that I have ordered over past 7 yrs has gotten in well before estimated ship date.

Sounds like they ship laptops in batches instead of when you ordered. Because both of you got 420's but completely different shipping estimates yet both shipped today for you. Wonder if x220s have already been shipped out from Lenovo. Perhaps they'll ship all that were ordered by Friday or a certain date?

It's normal with two exceptions I know of. One is December --getting a ThinkPad during the holiday season can be a real mess due to increased shipping times and demand on Lenovo's production and their supply chains (e.g., Lenovo isn't the only one needing 250GB hard drives so that can create a shortage at Christmas time). Also, some businesses place batch orders in the hope that they can declare them on taxes for that year.

The other can be when a new laptop is released. It will be interesting to see as the next few weeks progress what ship times are for the X-220, especially IPS screen models. I'm guessing the first batches of orders will be quick, but there could be slightly longer ship times if demand remains high for a bit.

    Request for info

I just got off the phone with a very helpful manager at Lenovo, who gave me the scoop on what is delaying W520 (and T520, and possibly T420s) orders. This is apparently a "Hirose Connector - Plannar Component" that is exclusive to Northern Japan, and not in supply. Estimated delivery is 5/16 and climbing.

Request: Is there anyone who ordered after April 8th, who received their order (or it is in transit) send me your order number (Preferably as a PM) I don't think there are any security implications, and if there are, please don't. Mr. Y would like to check into the shipping queue process a bit.

    Thanks!
    -Dan

I'll bet someone said this already. Ordered around Tuesday night, got an estimated ship date of May 12th. Just got my shipping confirmation today.

They build and ship stuff super fast.
