t600? i have my R500 and T61 and R61 on 24/7 for the past 6 months already. They don't mind it and works great. But if you use them in dusty environment, make sure to give the fan a good clean every month or so.

T400 should have no problem with 24/7 operation, if that is what you are referring to.

Also what sort of apps are you going to running it on the laptop?

FWIW, I have a T400 that’s on 24/7 (no sleep/suspend)—and so far it works fine—but I imagine it was not designed for this type of operation. Then again, it’s not heavily used—and it has adequate ventilation—so this might be why it’s still doing okay.

(I also have an aged Toshiba notebook that performs firewall functions and other minor tasks that has been running for years 24/7 flawlessly, but I guess that’s another story… ;)

you should have no problem leaving the T500 24/7, but as said before you need to clean the heatsink and fan once in a while.

Your T500 should have no problems being on 24/7; I've kept my T400 on pretty much entirely since Feburary and have had absolutely no issues. Just make sure(as mentioned a few times before) to check and clean the heat sink and fan periodically.

The Dell in my Sig. is left on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the past year and a half. Only shutting down to restart to do Windows Updates, etc.

If that Dell can do it, a Thinkpad T500 EAISLY can !

If you have no applications running, why leave it on 24/7? It's a waste of electricity. I always turn my T500 off whenever I'm not using it, usually at the end of the day or when I'm going to be out for a few hours.

I also agree with you 1000%.

My T61 always gets put to "sleep" (FN, F4) whenever I'm not using it. If I leave to go to work for the day, I'll put it to sleep. If I go to the store, the gym, etc. it goes to sleep. I very rarely do a FULL shut-down. 99% of the time my T61 is always on "sleep' when I'm not using it.

i have to leave the R500 on 24/7 because of the windows update have caused a problem where hibernating or shutting the laptop gives a BSOD... i haven't figured out which update caused this.

But usually it is better to put the laptop to sleep if you are not using it, this will prevent the fan clogging up with dusts and wasting electricity.
