Should I fork over the money? Ive been waiting for a good deal and the highest has been 15% on the w520. With the 23% off I can get a $1900 machine for about 1500. Just getting a second opinion lemme know what you think! Thanks!

Personally I'd drop the RAM and Hard Drive to the cheapest options and upgrade the Video to the max (2000M). You can upgrade the RAM and hard drive anytime on your own, the video card not so much.

The price seems good, but I'm really curious as to the price with the RAM/SSD dropped.

^that is just with the thinksavings coupon. It wont take the 23% one im trying to connect to a live chat

It worked now the price was correct. I would rather the computer be ready to go when I got it. I dont wanna take it apart and put parts in Ive never taken a computer apart. Still a good deal?

That's not a bad price. I too would definitely drop the HD and RAM upgrade and grab the top end GPU. HD and RAM upgrades as we know from lenovo are over-priced. They're also known to use more inferior products ie. SSD.

Keep in mind that your are buying a product at the end of its production run. The Ivy Bridge machines are around the corner and should be strongly considered at this point.

That and the W520 does have a checkered past. It does have some unresolved defects. At least some percentage of them do.

Did you start haggling after applying the 23% coupon? Did you show them the complete quote before haggling or walk through it with rep?

i never brought up the B&N discount.

i told them I was a student, sent them the configuration I wanted. The rep gave me a price. I told him it was too high, he gave me a second #. Said it was still to high. Then finally gave me the price that I agreed to buy it for.

    ..its like buying a car

I was able to haggle 24% off my W520 when I ordered it last year using the BN discount, the 10% email discount ("Save 10% your Next Purchase!", but try to get your rep to give it to you now), and haggling over the phone for about 90 minutes. The ordering advise in my sig is a link to a great thread here on NBR that gives some pointers on how to save money when buying laptops. I could also PM you my rep's contact info if you would like to try haggling with someone else.

I wouldn't. Sure, Ivy Bridge is coming out soon this Spring, but you have to remember that OEMs don't rush their business products (especially workstations) as soon as new CPUs hit. You have to certify them for CAD use, etc., so that companies feel good about buying them, or whatever justification there is.

For this generation (SB), Sandy Bridge came out in Feb.-Mar. 2011 (non-buggy version), and while the W520 was out of the gate quickly (April), the M4600/6600 and 8560w/8760w didn't see until late Summer/early Fall.
