It's 2021, and the ThinkPad and ThinkBook range are getting refresh on CPUs as well as... addition of a "Pro" with 16inch screen!

    ThinkBook 15 Gen3
    [IMG]
Aesthetically looks like IdeaPad 5 and not much difference from ThinkBook Gen2 which is packed with Ryzen4k CPUs.
Internally with exception of upgrade on CPU to 5000u series, basically the rest remains the same. 1channel soldered @ max of 8GB, 1channel expandable up to 32GB, 2 channel NVME with battery upgradable to 60whr, or 1 channel NVME plus HDD with fixed 45whr.

On the T-line of product, here's a preview of the Ryzen5000series powered T14s.
A rough glance on the aesthetics externally, there seems to be not much differences between the new and the previous Ryzen4000series based T14s. However, when the display lid is lifted, one most obvious changes seems to fall on the middle page scroll button at the keyboard section, where the last T14s seems to retain the ThinkPad "tradition".

Product spec page in PSREF is not up yet.
Here's a preview on the listing of the new replacement in Singapore's Lenovo page without pricing,

Not sure why one RAM stick is soldered on AMD Ryzen laptops. They can take 32GB or 64GB easily.

Lenovo probably benefits from this in some way, likely cost.

The trend of having one channel of RAM soldered starts from APPLE if i'm not wrong. That shaves off few mm from the build of typical dual channel laptops and gives it's slimness.
However, being Windows, makers knows that buyers/owners self upsizing of RAM is unavoidable and there will be such demand... hence, one channel left opened for buyers/owners self expansion.

And such "leave one channel alive" option, would yield a little earnings should potential buyers would want their gears to be memory packed. In Lenovo's case, lets say one channel is soldered with 8GB of RAM, that would not be enough for some, and the hungry ones would pay more for RAM expansion by 32GB to reach 40GB RAM filled system. Of course... not all would go until that big. If i'm eyeing for that ThinkBook 16p, with default size of soldered 8GB RAM, i would probably goes 16GB expansion for my work... and those expansion of RAMs, would cost roughly 20% more than typical market price of 3rd party RAMs i can find.
Of course, knowing that buyers/owners resource in getting budget RAMs is wide, Lenovo can put their 20% overcharge on soldered RAMs... Wouldn't that yield some little bonuses?

I'd take 2 unpopulated dimm slots over soldered since it can fail and single channel perf. is terrible.

I just purchased the ThinkBook 13s AMD 16GB/512GB.
So far in the configuration I opted to don't install Windows 11, wanted to ask if someone has tried it and how is going.
I know AMD cpu are not performing correctly under W11 (what a surprise, just in time with the new Intel CPUs coming), but sure a patch will solve these issues, was interested to other things.
