There is a bunch of interesting Power Point presentations from ThinkPad technical launch linked below. Some stuff is typical MBA/sales material but there are other findings like:

    • New battery models (70+, 70++, 81+, 82+) feature a hardware authentication chip. These batteries will work in 2012 and older ThinkPads. Existing battery models (55, 55+, 55++, 66+) do not have a hardware authentication chip and will be recognized, but not be charged, in 2012 ThinkPads
    • Lenovo considers HP Spectre, LG Z340 and Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra as competitors to T430s and T430u
    • Performance comparison between T420 and T430 Intel and nVidia graphics subsystems (not that impressive for price they ask)
    • T530 with nVidia NN12M-S Optimus has significant drop in battery life compared to integrated graphics (7.7 vs. 9.1 h)
    • T430s, W530 and X1 Carbon have Dolby v4, other models Dolby v2
    • Rapid Boot promises SSD-like boot times from a HDD (40% faster)
    • Win 8 coming Sep.-Oct. 2012
    • 500GB slim drives (7mm) are in T430, T430s and X230
    • Old keyboard is NOT available by any means
    • X1 Carbon and T430s use new carbon fiber raw material (230% stronger than the carbon fiber material used in construction of the top cover of the T420s)
    • 2012 "owl wing" fans have more blades and static discharging to prevent dust from accumulating (how about that mac book pro? :D)
    • Mil-SPEC-810
    • New ThinkEngine chip for system management
    • mSATA + HDD will show as single C: drive
    • Improved responsiveness (3.5x faster WWAN connections, 3.7x faster resume from Hibernate)
    • Lenovo Mobile pay-as-you-go WWAN connectivity (no contract)
    • Expecting up to 10-15% Ivy Bridge IA performance gain over Sandy Bridge
    • Mobile HotSpot (sharing your WiFi, WWAN, or Ethernet connection wirelessly with colleagues and friends)
    • Bluetooth HID Emulator (use ThinkPad's keyboard/trackPoint/touchpad as an input device for other device, like tablet)
    • Fingerprints stored on the reader itself

I really hope I am not reading too much into this. According to the slides, the T430U has a 1366x768 screen. I hope that isn't the ONLY available native resolution.

That resolution is a non starter for me and many other people.

Posted this in another thread as well, but Li-Ion battery technology is VERY dangerous --- I honestly would never buy one from a 3rd party unless I trusted them based on more research than I would want to do. Saving a few bucks is NOT worth burning your house down. I'm actually surprised that it has taken this long to see this, considering that a manufacture such as Lenovo should do what they can to prevent being blamed for one of their products causing an accident (due to a 3rd party purchase).
