I am looking to by the 200gb FDE drive that Lenovo has available for the W500. It looks like a Hitachi 7K200 BDE drive. I have looked everywhere in US online to find one of these. I checked distribution also, Synnex, Bell Mircro and ASI. Does anybody know who has these available online in USA? Anyone with experience with these drives?

The last time I checked there were several Hitachi's that would fit the bill.
In this case the bill is the capacity you want plus that it be 7200 rpm and
be scsi. -
One other option is to use TrueCrypt Full Disc encryption. This is free, works with any hard drive, and can be used to pull data off the drive (from another computer) in the event that your ThinkPad fails.
In my experience there is no performance penalty for Truecyrpt (although you will notice your processor has to work to calculate the on the fly encryption for large reads/writes; this could reduce performance if you do tasks that are both CPU and disc intensive e.g. high bitrate Audio/Video transcoding). -
Absolutely agree. Use TrueCrypt. No comparison.
