I just got my laptop today and was checking the memory usage and noticed that only 2.99 is usable and the rest is hardware reserved . I have NVS 3100 so no shared memory for graphics. What is the problem?

I use Windows 7 64 Bit which should support 4 GB

Update: Solved with BIOS update mentioned below.

You don't know what day they built it. Perform the BIOS update as it at least seems relevant.

I was on hold on Lenovo support before reading your replies, anyway apparently the support guy have no clue about this fix and this BIOS update because he told me that 1 GB missing is normal.

My x201 shows 3.8 GB usable out of 4, and does not have this BIOS update, given that it arrived in May, and I have not done the update.

That is only the case with 32 bit Windows OS before Vista SP1 I believe

This BIOS update is just for the T510, I don't know if this problem was faced by other models.
