Trying to configure T61... For the same price, which of the following wireless cards is better?
a. Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
b. ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ
(I have no clue. )
Also, what is the difference between Standard Warranty and Express Warranty?
Thanks in advance!--Happy 4th!

im a newb too but i would assume the 4965AGN would be the superior card.
-
the thinkpad branded card is roughly 20% stronger (in my tests)
but the intel listed above has draft N standard -
Their Intel Cards always pale in comparasion to their Atheros based wireless cards. I'd suggest getting the IBM ABGN wireless card.
-
the ibm card is much better. the only reason why they're offering the intels as a free upgrade is because they are probably running low on atheros models.
If you share files on a network wirelessly often and have an N router, then you may want to go with the freebie. -
Thanks. I keep reading people mentioning Atheros, but all I see offered here are either Intel or Thinkpad, or 'integrated'. Did I miss something? (I don't know anything )
-
when they say thinkpad card, they are referring to the atheros solution(ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ )
Also when someone mentioned integrated, they are generally referring to the integrated graphics solution by intel.
As for the warranty, lenovo has a basic warranty where you send them the defective product and they'll fix/replace it and send it back via overnight delivery. The upgraded warranty is where someone actually comes to your house within 24 hours to fix the problem on site. If there is something wrong with the equipment, they replace it overnight. -
panteedropper, many thanks for answering all my questions! Somewhere when I tried to configure, there's a choice between:
8897: Express - 1 Yr Depot Warranty
8938: 1 Yr Standard Depot Warranty
What's the difference? Is the "Express" what you were referring to, "overnight delivery"? Standard means not by mail (must carry it to the depot)? -
"standard" means if something goes wrong, ibm will send you a prepaid container to ship the laptop to them and they'll send it back to you via overnight shipping(as soon as the repair has been performed).
"express" means if something goes wrong, ibm will send someone to you to take a look at it, if he/she can't repair it, they'll send you a replacement overnight -
panteedropper, you've made it very clear to me; Thank you very much!
