My wireless has been dropping out randomly, every couple hours to once a day. Overall, the signal is kinda weak in both the 2.4 and 5 ghz modes (802.11N). The router is a linksys wrt610n (dual-band) with the latest firmware. This weak signal has occurred on two Y430 ideapads, so it's not a fluke with one. The wifi cards are intel wifi link 5100 with the latest drivers.

I can be in the 5ghz mode, it will average around 81, 108, or 135 mbps and then suddenly go down to 9, then 6, then drop out. In 2.4 ghz mode, it drops down too, to around 13, 24, or 54 (average) but doesn't drop out as much. It seems very random that it would be fine, then drop out.

I would say I'm simply out of range, but my wife's macbook has much better signal in the places mine has trouble and never drops out. I can usually move closer to the router and it improves, but I'm annoyed that the macbook is getting better signal.

Please help. Is there a certain setting that works best? A better driver version? Thanks.

Anyone know if it's worth getting a 5300? Is it easy to replace a wifi card on a notebook?

...AGH!!! My signal just randomly went down from a consistent 135 to 13 mbps for no reason. *** is going on here!?!?!?

....now i'm at 6. just dropped out. reconnected again and am getting between 6 and 9 mbps. This thing is going back if I can't get a fix. I do web work and can't get my job done with this many disconnects.

I'm running on 2.4 ghz N mode and it's getting a slower rate than my 4 year old laptop, also running Vista. 26 mbps on the lenovo, a full 54 on the old laptop.

I got a feeling this is going back

I was having a similar problem, actually my router was being constantly reset by the computer.

I uninstalled Lenovo Readycom, and that solved the problem. After a little research apparently Windows and the Lenovo program don't like each other.
