My first day has been great with my new t61p. Here are a few of my impressions based on things I've seen brought up in this forum:

    - My screen (WSXGA+) is clear and super bright. I have to knock the brightness down several notches at night. No pixel issues, light bleeds, or anything else.

    - It's cooler and makes less noise than either of my T60p's. That also includes the 200GB 7200rpm Hitachi drive I'm using at the primary now.

    - My keyboard is definitely different than the other two T60p's I have. This keyboard is a little noisy compared to them but doesn't bother me in the least. It still feels very good, just not as good as the other machines I have.

    - Created the factory DVD and installed it on another drive to confirm it works. The DVD's are now collecting dust in my cabinet since I'll likely never use them.

    - Installed the 4GB of OCZ memory and Vista x64. Nice. This is the way it's supposed to be.

    - Premiere Elements 3.02 won't run on x64 Vista and I'm not happy about it. I'm not real pleased with Adobe's support for Elements 2.x or 3.x on Vista and I think this was the last straw for me. I also said that on the upgrade from 2.x to 3.x. I mean it now. I really do. :D

    - I'm installing a bunch of apps first, then I'll install a few games. So far, so good in x64 land.

    Cheers,

    Halobox

    p.s. This is a T61p, 15.4" 1680x1050 WSXGA+ screen, Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 4GB OCZ RAM, 200GB 7200rpm Hitachi drive, DVD burner, Intel 4965AGN, etc.

i ordered the same OCZ pair. Though, I'm going to sit with 3GB until I feel like moving to Vista and all of my apps are supported.

    cheers!

Which screen manufacturer do you have?

I got the Samsung in my WUXGA T61P and it's horrible. Beyond the defective light leakage it is so dim even on the brightest setting that I can only see it in a dark room and even then it's not bright enough.

that hard drive is a very tempting buy although for the time being I will live with my 160gb 5400.

I just got the cheapest drive that came with the unit (80GB 5400rpm). I can use it in the multibay caddy for storage of non essential data, running Linux, etc. Like I said, non essential stuff. :D

Ok Linux fanboys, I'm just teasing. For the record, I have years of experience using all of the operating systems ever build... for the most part. NextStep x86 was certainly fun.

Now I wonder if Apple is going to get smart and allow us to run Leopard on a T61p...

    Hey Halobox

How did you manage a wsxga t61p? I can't see that option anywhere on there site? As far as I can see its 1920X1200, 1440X900 or 1280X800? If I had a choice in the matter i would like the 1680X1050 wsxga paired with the quadro 570 over the 1920X1200 but I don't see it as an option.

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

I was thinking of doing that but I can see a reason to have 360gb of space inside of a laptop. that would be more than my desktop currently holds. the only reason I would possibly do it is to maybe load vista on int to play around with or maybe even linux cause I know nothing about it but could play around with it to start to learn it.

This would probably cause me to buy a faster drive actually. I would love to install this on a second drive for the machine but I doubt they will do it.

are you purchasing in the US? that may be a difference. i also got the t61p with wsxga+(1680x1050) as far as i am aware the t61 has different resolutions available, but the t61p widescreen has only two wuxga and wsxga+, but the wuxga has been taken off the site due to a backorder of the screens. you may want to check this link

Well its bloody well great to be Canadian  NOT!!

After talking with my rep this morning the only t61p model available to me is the 1900X1200 model.

Or I could go for the older t61 @ 1680X1050 but its got the ati fire gl graphics and its not santa rosa. And there is not much of a price break on that model either even though its a tad older.

    Sigh...

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

Hey man... I wonder whether your T61p is in T61 chassis or in T61p Chassis? And does your T61p chassis include a 4-in-1 media card reader in the front and the audio input/output on the left side? Thanks a lot man... I am quite worrying about the chassis for the WSXGA+ T61p...

Arn't they the same chassis? What is different besides the marking on the lid? No one has said that they have ordered a T61p and received a T61 so I don't know why you are worrying.

Oh... Sorry I should mention that, T61 has its audio input/output ports on the front side located at the T61p's 4-in-1 media card reader location, and T61's 4-in-1 media carder reader is between the Express Card and PC Card slots (a little bit awkward...), whereas T61p has its audio input/output ports on the left side and, T61p has 4-in-1 media card reader on the front side located at T61's audio input/output ports.
