    Hello,
i'm looking to get W510 but i noticed this display listed on lenovo.com but doesn't show if its 1920 x 1200

Basically what interest me more is resolution of 1920x1200 to fit into my external monitor and thinking to get fastest quad core 920XM processor with 128GB SSD

what do you recommend? i'm checking W510 page at Lenovo - Laptop computers - ThinkPad W510

FHD is 1920 x 1080 it is 16:9 inch format, there is no 16:10 WUXGA LCD. The only one to have that was the older W500. If you really that resolution then you would have to get a W701 laptop.

The best place to check specs for a question like that is the tabook.pdf file at lenovo.com/psref.

The W510 will drive your external monitor at 1920x1200 with no issues. As for the proc and CPU, do you really need the Extreme Quad Core? You didn't mention why.

As for the 128GB SSD, I would not buy it from lenovo.com. Most of the threads on this site indicate the drive is from Samsung and doesn't support TRIM.

The OP wants a W510 with 16:10 LCD with WUXGA resolution.

He indicated that he is primarily wanting to drive his external monitor at WUXGA. Further, he wanted to know what FHD meant from a resolution standpoint. Both those queries have been answered...

In order to field his final query we need to know what he intends to use the laptop for to decide if he actually needs a that much processor...

sorry for late reply for some reason i no longer get notifications from the forum on my email :)

currently i have W500 which have 1920x1200 so when i use it on the go then come back to office i dont need to switch between resolutions which is not very eye comfortable

as for the processor i wanted the fastest processor to stay longer life time with my day-to-day usage

i'm heavy user and sometimes applications doesn't respond as fast as i need them to.

i might be using simple apps but pretty massive heavy load on them which my processor indicator shows always around 50% or even more

    whats TRIM btw?

i think you would be better served with the W701 instead. Many of the W510 quad core that i have come across really heats up if you constantly max out the CPU.

my W500 is heating already so i'm used to it :)

the W701 is kinda bulky to carry around

    Bashar,

I have the W510 with a native resolution of 1920x1080. I also have a T61p with a native res of 1920x1200. When the W510 is docked on my desk, I am using the native resolution of the external LCD panels (two of them) at 1920x1200. If I am tired, I might switch both of them to 1680x1050.

When I am using the laptop LCD screen, I have the 1920x1080 resolution set to at least 110% DPI. 1920x1080 is a bit tiny for me these days.

The W510 will drive two external LCD panels at nearly any resolution you want. See the max specs in tabook.pdf at Personal Systems Reference (PSREF) sheets.

As for TRIM, it is the data management (actually cell management) integration between an OS and a SSD drive. Early generation SSD drives didn't support it properly which leads to a gradual degradation of speed over time. I am skipping a lot of the details.

The W701 is like an old Sun Sparcstation. I'm not sure I'd ever recommend carrying around a pizza box sized laptop. Love the W701 screen, but still.

If you are used to the size, weight and heat of the W500, then you'll dig the W510. I haven't tested the high end proc you want, but I didn't think the 720 or 820 were overly hot on any of the units I've had. They certainly run cooler than the MacBook Pro.

@Bashar. Have you tried cleaning the thinkpads heatsink and fan? It is probably overheating due to clogging with dusts or something. When i had mine W500 it was running lot cooler than the T61p laptop under load.
