I recently sold my T60 15.4 WSXGA+ because I hated my samsung screen.

I thought was going to by a T61 14.1 SXGA+ or 15.4 WSXGA+ with discrete graphics whenever they come out.

However, I just realized tonight that i can get flexview on EPP on both a T60 and T60p. I know there aren't major differences from a t60 and t61 besides the chipset/CPU/Graphics card... that I know of. To get the flexview will cost me about 200 bucks more for the same specs that I would get a T61... is it worth it? I've never seen an IPS screen. Would there be any other negatives with going with the older T60?

I probably can't afford the T60p, so I would go with the t60 w/ ATI x1400 which is what i had on the t60 I sold.

The IPS versions are by far better than any other screen I have used. Well worth the extra 200. If you do a general search for IPS, PVA, and TN displays and read up on them, you can see why they are much higher quality screens.

That's a value judgment which is hard for me to answer for you. My T42 had the FlexView. It remains the best notebook screen I have used, but I wanted a smaller notebooks and do not do anything where the FlexView would be advantageous so I downgraded screen wise to the R60.

I use my notebook for college classes and the occasional game. The viewing angles I don't think would be advantageous for me either, so maybe I'll just wait it out for a T61 SXGA+ w/ discrete if they ever release them and if they don't just get another 15.4 widescreen with discrete. I guess I'm probably paranoid after having my samsung. But I think I should be after paying 1500+ for it and getting such a crappy screen. Also, I can't really afford IPS w/ the same specs I had, so it would probably be a bad decision to downgrade. Argh, more waiting :\

Well since there is that 250 Dollar coupon posted it is about the same price
I am coming from a 15.4 WS T60 so it sounds like it would be about the same weight, which wasn't a big issue for me... UGH, I don't know what to do w/ this coupon out now.

ZaZ, you had FlexView on your T42? Whoa, I thought those were on T60s only. FlexView is only for the 15 inch models, right?

I don't, just using it for college and a few games... However, I had my t60 which had the crappy Samsung WSXGA+ panel so I would love to have a good screen. I'm nervous about ordering another 15.4 ws t61 when they come out for the very reason I might get another samsung wsxga+ Panel

I believe the FlexView screens were first available on the A series.

Zaz, since it's not going to cost anymore... and the weight of the 15.4in didn't bother me... Would you recommend getting a flexview over waiting for a t61?

    Yes, A series is correct...

Last year, the FlexView was an extra $350 option.

So it's definitely worth an extra $200.

You won't notice any difference between Santa Rosa and Napa chipsets. But your eyes will definitely notice a difference between the mediocre TN screens on the T61 and a quality IPS FlexView screen on select T60's

The lack of IPS panels on the T61 is a significant loss of quality.

Actuall the LG wsxga+ screen is cheaper than the samsung. A lot of ppl hate the LG screen too.

I had an opportunity to compare these side-by-side at IBM on thursday, along with a 14.1" 4:3 sxga+ and an IPS Flexview.

Both the LG and Samsung WSXGA+ screens were definitely the worse. They were the brightest, but were less sharp and uneven and harsh. The 14.1" 4:3 had even lighting and much sharper, but it was the dullest. The Flexview was the sharpest, smoothest, best contrast and, of course, had best viewing angles. Also, the colors producec by the TN panels are very wrong, whereas the IPS panel produces accurate color.

    Awesome!

I'm excited now. That's the way to go if you can handle the size of a 15" (i can cope).
