With the exception of the 15" MacBook Pro (which BTW now costs $2449CAD) most laptop keyboards are offset (because of the numpad).

With the offset keyboard, the computer is harder to use on my lap because my arms will slightly slanted to the left. It is just awkward. I don't know if I can get used to it.

I really don't want to pay $2449 for a laptop but it seems like Apple is the only company in the world that can make a computer right. 16:10 screens and centered keyboards. Retina screens, IPS screens. Excellent design. Excellent OS. Excellent glass trackpad. This is just off the top of my head. I guess I have no choice but to pay the $2449 for a new laptop, it is a shame because I really wanted to get a 15" ThinkPad but the keyboard is so bad.

Never really thought about it, my asus is offset but I always use it on a desk, the thinkpad which I use on my lap is centered.

My thinkpad is centered too. Why is this thread in the Lenovo forum, anyway? It seems like the main point of the first post is to point out how great Apple notebooks are. That can be done in the Apple section.

I prefer a centered keyboard because I have no use for a numpad. I even use a TKL keyboard for my desktop because it takes up less space. That being said I would take the T550 keyboard over the trashy Macbook keyboard. An offset keyboard with a decent layout beats a centered keyboard with a crappy layout any day of the week.

Because current 15" Thinkpads have offset keyboards. This was part of the reason I chose a 14" laptop to upgrade my T520 as I didn't want to deal with the offset keyboard and trackpad.

While not a Dell guy, I wish this was available to look at when I upgraded.

No, no, no, and once again no! I do not like them. This type keyboard is pretty much useless for me and kinda unergonomic, because shifts hands position on left from the center of the keyboard, not to mention the trackpad which is placed way more to the left side of the laptop, which is also unaesthetic...

Yes, I understand there are people who prefer working on the offset keyboards, but I am not from them.

Now days these keyboards are mainstream, and I still do not understand why Lenovo put offset keyboard on their 15" T and W series. So when I have to replace my T510, probably I`ll step down in display size (from 15.6" to 14.1") in order to save the near perfectly centered keyboard.

Same here. The off-center touchpad is not only bad for ergonimcs but it looks really bad. I'm glad my T530 (the last 15" T-series with a centered trackpad) is still pretty much state-of-the-art (i7-3632QM, 16GB, 1TB + 240GB SSDs), even after three years. Maybe the T450p will pack enough CPU/GPU power (along with an IPS screen) to motivate me to upgrade.

Sadly, I think the odds of Lenovo offering a centered trackpad (which would mean ditching the numpad) in the 15" T/W series are pretty small.

I bought a near new W530 for $749. Great keyboard and screen.

I am getting used to the offset on my W550s. I will probably not notice it when I quit using my W520. It is a bit of a relearn however.

I don't use the touchpad on ThinkPads, only the pointing stick, and since I don't raise my hands from the keyboard I'd prefer that the mouse buttons be centered to the alpha characters. I don't use a number pad so my fingers never wander over there Now, from a visual layout perspective I do find it kind of annoying that it's not centered. I also do not like the MacBook keyboard, key travel is too shallow and not nearly the same great tactile feedback as a ThinkPad. Anyway, I'm a 14" screen or under type of guy so really I have no part in this debate, thought I'd stick my neck out though...

Until they come out with a 15" ThinkPad that's under four pounds, which I'm sure is coming, it's a non-issue for me.

If you spent less time complaining/thinking about it and just used your computer, I'm sure you'd get over it pretty quickly.

My M4800 has a numpad (which I really appreciate since I have to enter numbers frequently while doing CAD work) and shifted keyboard/touchpad. I stopped noticing it after two or three days.

i am still getting use to it on my W550s. The off centered design wasn't my favourite, and this is one major reason i still use my W520 and W530 all the time.
