Hello,
I've been scanning this board for about a week now and some of the members seem to know everything about thinkpads...its pretty impressive. Hopefully someone can answer this:
Why is it that 15" sxga+ T42's are sometimes listed as having a height of 1.2" and others 1.4"? I have found an example of this conflict and am posting both links below. The only differences I could find between the two is that one has a 60gig HD and bluetooth compared to the other's 40gig and no bluetooth - but with the first being thinner! Perhaps the 1.2" was produced more recently?
The first, with the height listed at 1.2"

And the second, with the height listed at 1.4"

Update:
The first link was a 2379DXU, and is listed as 1.2" height
The second link is a different model# but listed as 1.4" height
My question still stands, because they should both be the same thickness...but to prove the conflict even further, here is a link to the SAME model, the 2379DXU, which my first link shows to be 1.2", but this link says 1.4"

This is so strange...what sizes are most of you guys' 15" T42's?

I have been wondering the same thing, with a variation.
14" SXGA with a DVD-Writer - always 1.4" chassis
14" SXGA with a DVD-ROM - either 1.2" or 1.4" chassis
They don't make it easy for folks looking for a DVD-Writer in a 1.2" chassis! -
I spoke to an IBM sales rep and his best guess was the measurements were taken at different ends of the chassis (the thicker being the back of the laptop).
So I guess this is solved, unless anyone else has an explanation. -
Well, I have a t42, 14" screen, model 2378RAU. It's 1-1.2" thick.
15" T42 - some 1.2" thick, others 1.4" ?
