Upon reading many posts regarding the screens on the T42, there seems to be some controversial ideas about the screens... some have said that the 1400 X 1050 resolution on the 14.1 inch screen is too much and detracts from the visibility of text...??
I'm between buying a T42 with a 14.1 inch screen with only XGA and 32 mb mobility 9000 or a T42 with a 14.1 inch screen with SXGA+ and 64 mb mobility 9600....
is the resolution really that detrimental and is it true that when changing the 1400 native resolution to 1280 resolution that the screen is lacking in quality??
help my newbieness

the 1400x1000 is the resolution setting you should go for. yes the fonts can be small if the settings on the windows are not changed but all of these settings can be changed. once these quirks are worked out the screen is very nice. it is much denser than the xga so everything looks nicer. you shouldn't change the resolution settins because you will get artifacts and bluriness. you can't go wrong with the +sxga. it's the only one i would ever get.
i'm already on my 4th thinkpad. will get my t42 in 3 days!

I own a T42 with sxga+ on a 15" screen and I love it. With a smaller screen I would definitely go with sxga+ as you can see more real estate. The font size is small but you get used to it quickly. My son's T42 is an xga and the fonts and icons seem huge. He looks at mine and says they are too small. My point is that you will get used to what you have. When it comes to spreadsheets and web pages you will appreciate the better resolution.
1400 sxga+ resolution on the t42???
