I think the new lenovo N100 14 inch looks like a great notebook. For a grand you can get a 1.83 core du0, 100 gb 5400 hd, 512 mb 533 ram, ABG wireless. You can also upgrade to a nine cell battery for I would say around 5 hours battery life. So then, with these great specs and price, why is no one talking about it?
-
Because thinkpads rockz0rs
-
I never see a 14" Wide screen notebook that thick,
big, ugly, heavy.... except DELL of cause....! -
It is a little thick for me. However, I think the N100 looks good. Its not as good as thinkpads, but its far from ugly. Also I dont think the 14 inch model is big either. Do you consider 5.5 lbs heavy? I hope not.
Remember the N100 is at least $500 dollars cheaper for a thinkpad with similar specs. We cant expect it to be identical to a thinkpad. -
Do you see the real thing yet? I have the same thought
when I see the N10 photo before. But after I see & play
at the Levovo N100 release trade party, I am shocked &
say WTF.... haha.... anyway.... -
One reason is that it's a pretty new line and people are still unsure of what to think of Lenovo. Also, I think thinkpad owners in general tend to be a bit elitist, and the thought of a budget computer 'ruining the good name' of ibm/lenovo gets them all anxious. You know, if it's not a thinkpad, it's ****.
I don't see too much talk about the R-series around here either, and when they are brought up, the response is often 'thinkpads are better', even though I'm sure the R-series are good computers.
Obviously this isn't true all the time, but them not being talked about isn't necessarily a representation of their quality, at least at this point. Maybe lenovo needs to do a better job of advertizing to the n100's market before people start to talk about them more. -
Just to be precise: R series are Thinkpads.
-
2nd post: I still like the thinkpads more though...at least they got the red thing.....c100 specs looks soo cheap but at least a good build quality and looks decent too...I like the c100 on the outside more but the specs of n100 more....
lenovo 3000 seems to me more like a new brand laptop than their sibling of thinkpad series...
do these offer same specification like some of the thinkpads though? like shock mount hd and water proof keyboard.... -
My 14" N100 will be here Wednesdayish and I'll have a review and pictures hopefully by Friday.
If you're interested. -
I am extremely interested in your review, cant wait!!!!
-
Me too. My dad should have ordered mine today. Any word on when the 9 cell batteries will be out? Every store seems to have them on backorder.
-
I think they did a review of the 14" on Cnet. We also did a review of the 15" which should be similar to the 14" quality wise and tide you over until the other review is posted.
-
Yeah, Ive read everything there is to offer on the Lenovos as far as reviews. I am minal yinterested in pics of the 14 in model to see how it differs from the 15.4 as well as battery life differences with the smaller screen. And cnets review talks about a 14 in being available but their unit was a 15.4 in.
-
Did you get your N100 jimmy? I'm very interested in your review and pics of the 14".
-
Did get it, had it about a week now.
Working on a review of it. -
Yeah, mine is in too, but I wont be getting my hands on it til Sunday so I will try to have a review submitted sometime Monday or Tuesday. This week has been killing me since I know it showed up at my parents house on Monday and I cant have it til Sunday. I hope it is all I want it to be and that I can provide a good review of it to show what it can do. If theres anythign you guys want me to look at, let me know.
-
I would really appreciate the review. I am very interested in the 14 inch N100 because of its low price. Prices for a core duo starting at $840 (buy.com) without the $100 rebate makes this one of the cheapest duo notebooks.
-
yeah, just waiting for the review. I don't have a negative idea about the lenovo but I dont have a positive feeling too!!
-
Congrats on the new laptops guys!
I'm interested in seeing some good pics of the 14" version and just some overall opinions of the N100, like build quality and screen quality.
I graduate on Saturday and hopefully I'll get enough money for an N100. -
jimmy, me too waiting for your review...

Just picked mine up this morning, had a little time to play around. Mainly been downloading updatings, installing software, etc. I was a little surprised by the size as it seems there is some extra space on the sides and top of the lcd screen. I dont know if this is for stability reasons or just to match the bottom of the case and they needed more width to fit everything in. It is pretty much the same thickness as my Dell Inspiron 8600 and 1 inch less wide and deep. Ill include comparison pics when I write my review. Screen is very good quality. The glossy coating looks great and so far I haven't been bothered by the glare which was one of my main concerns. As far as build quality goes, everything seems to fit right and tight and everything feels solid. I think I like the keyboard a little better than the one on my dell other than the bottom left key being the Fn key instead of a Ctrl key. It just feels a lot more solid than my Dell one which I am very happy with as I will probably be writing lots of papers on this for school. I have not experienced the loud cd drive like Jimmy except when flipping the laptop over while a drive was spinning. It never did this on my dell so Im guessing the mechanism doesnt hold the disc as tight in this one. Also of note is the drive is listed as a DVD-RAM drive on top of being a +/- DL drive. As far as weight goes, it does seem lighter than my Dell which is the reason I went with a 14.1" laptop this time around. I noticed it the second I put it on my lap. It also seems to run cooler than my Dell. As far as the battery goes, I think I got about 3.5 hours the one time I ran the battery all the way down and this was while downloading and installing so wireless was on and constantly being used as well as occasional use of the optical drive.
There didnt seem to be much bloatware except Corel Word Perfect Suite and photo album, but some people may actually welcome these. There was only 1 internet promo thing compared to the 10 or so most Dells seem to come with. There is no windows CD or recovery cd or driver cd. Everything is on a hidden HD partition that is accessed by recovery software. I have not played with it but maybe after hearing someone else's experiences with it I will back up the drivers and just do a fresh windows reinstall if possible but so far there doesnt seem to be a lot of extra stuff running in the background.
Overall I am very impressed with this product and am glad I decided to go with this instead of an HP or a custom built laptop. I will try to post some pictures tomorrow and hopefully will have the review in sometime next week after I get some time to explore it. -
Forgot to add that I ran some Super Pi tests last night as well.
2:10 on battery running about 598 mhz (according to My Computer properties)
1:25 plugged in no major apps running, just background stuff
1:26 plugged in with DVD Shrink running and compressing a DL dvd to fit on one single layer disc. Gotta love the dual cores.
If theres anything specific you want me to look at, again let me know and Ill check it out for you. -
Awesome! Thanks for the quick rundown.
If possible I'd like to see some comparison pics of how thick it is compared to other things and just size in general. Thanks -
Try to get those taken and posted when I get done with work and class. Most likely will be a comparison between my Inspiron 8600 and the N100. Not sure if I have access to any other systems to compare.
