I would like to purchase a T60, but with the recent release of the 15" widescreen, I might want to hold out until a 14" widescreen is released. I definitely need a laptop before the beginning of summer. Is it likely that one will be released before then? I'll be doing a lot of photo editing, so I think the widescreen display will be very useful. The 15" is too large and expensive for my tastes.

    Thanks.

That is dependent on the success of the 15.4" model, but seeing as they found enough support to actually make a widescreen T, I see no reason for them not introducing a 14" ws model as well.
If it doesnt come, check out the Z series. The 14" Z isnt as bad in terms of weight as the 15.4" one (7lbs? wtf?).
They may actually keep the Z61t (14"), ditch the Z61m (15.4"), and not make a ws 14" T60.

How does the 14" Z series compared to the 14" T60? I don't want to make any compromises. I'm trying to configure a machine right now, but I can't seem to get any better than integrated graphics. I prefer the X1400. What can be done? Also, does the 7-cell battery stick out the back of the 14" Z61t?

You will see almost as much vertically on the SXGA+ T60 (1400x1050) as you will on a WXGA+ Z61t (1440x900) plus much more horizontally which I find more useful.

If Lenovo does come out w/ a 14" WS version of the T, how would it really differ between the Z series? I see the T offers discrete graphics, but is there anything else besides that and the case?

I see a problem with this. You are gaining 40 pixels on the wide end in exchange for 150 pixels on the short end. Or am I misunderstanding?

No, you are 100% correct, that is the nature of current widescreens.

The only real widescreen would be the 1920x1200 where you do not loose any vertical pixels, WUXGA.

The way you gain pixels is by going with the WS version of a standard aspect ratio... SXGA+ is 1400x1050, WSXGA+ is 1680x1050, etc.

    But WSXGA+ isn't offered on a 14" notebook.

And that's the problem with 14" WS, which is one reason I went with the standard ratio T60...
