I'm thinking about buying a 14" T60 (or a Sony SZ140, I haven't decided yet) and one important criteria for me is screen quality, especially brightness. I want to be able to sit in the park and use the notebook without having to guess what's on the screen.
So, to all those who actually own a 14" T60 with sxga+ resolution: How is that screen both quality and brightness-wise?

Like previous 14" SXGA+ Thinkpad screens: won't be good in bright sunlight.

As I have no experience with Thinkpad screens in general, this doesn't really help me as much.
Let's say... compared to the Sony screen (SZ110/120/140, not the LED screen, I can't afford that), how does it fare?

I have the exact same question.

The portability is nice, but the T60p has just that extra bit of oomph....

The T60's screen is rated at 200 nits. The Maxbrite, 300.

For an indoor/outdoor display, 300 is the minimum you would want. The Panasonic Toughbook 29's outdoor readable screen is rated at 540 nits (non touch screen)!

I hold the Thinkpads in high regard but their 14" displays are very average.

As I have no experience with Sony screens, I cannot tell you any more than I already told you. The Thinkpad screen won't be good in bright sunlight.

What about Thinkpad 15" SXGA+ FlexView IPS???
    Does it have sufficient brightness?

I am standing outside with the screen cranked all the way up typing this, it is readable but not great. I think the new T60s FlexViews are supposed to be brighter. I think you are better off with a glossy screen as they tend to do better outdoors with the extra brightness. Portable one sells the MX with a transreflective display.
