Any chance of Lenovo releasing a 13.3" widescreen Thinkpad, or for that matter, any machine smaller than 14.1" that has an optical drive? I want something super portable but can't sacrifice the DVD (i.e., X60).

I haven't heard anything in pre-production stage at this point, and I doubt there will be a 13.3" WS in the near future. A market perhaps worth hitting would be a 14.1" WS T60; T60 WS is only available in a 15.4" form factor right now.

I was going to wait for a smaller widescreen also. However I can't wait any longer. I will be ordering a 14" T60 as soon as they start shipping with Vista.

Not to hijack the thread, but is it worth upgrading from a T5600 processor to a T7200?

The price is rather substantial, when looking at overall price.

    yea its worth it IMO
you get 4MB cache vs 2MB with the T5600

*do some research on this please and dont take my word, because im not 100% sure

There is the Z series which is pretty light with the four cell battery. It depends on what you are doing as to whether the extra L2 cache is worth it.

If it is a substantial price difference, in most cases I would say No, it is not worth the upgrade. You need to be doing some real processor intensive tasks to feel the difference.

    Good info.

I'd love to wait for a 14" widescreen, however the only reason I want it for the form factor. So, I am going to go ahead and get the T60. I bought one already, but turned it over to my wife, and I love it. Now its just a matter if I want to spend 1400 or 1600, and wether or not the price difference is worth the upgraded processor.

Thanks for the input, and sorry for the thread hijack.

Well, laptops shipped right now come with a Vista Upgrade coupon, meaning they will eventually send you a copy of Vista when it is released. This is for current XP Machines, i'm assuming because Vista was supposed to be out in and around Christmas, but things didn't go as planned.

Vista is another version of Microsoft's operating systems. The 64-bit version (for 64-bit machines) will offer faster processes and more a fancy GUI. Vista is targeted at all laptop PC and home computer users with their wide variety of versions: Home, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate. The Aero is the new GUI that is apparently going to be very attractive and look overall neat. Some may find this too 'Multimedia' for them and others will like it.

Personally, I would say wait until they release the service pack(s) as there may be bugs that need to be cleaned out, like other OSs.
