How does the real estate compare on a 12.1" XGA screen to a 14.1" widescreen WXGA+?

    Has anyone gone from a T/R Series WXGA+ to a 12.1" X-Series(x60, x61) XGA?

    Any screen pic comparisons?

the resolution of the XGA on 12.1 inch is comparable to the 14.1 inch WXGA, the 14.1 inch WXGA+ got more screen real estate.

Anyway, you should look at the ppi numbers, pixel per inch, gives you a density factor.

I want to sell the T400 and get a 16"-17" budget gaming machine.

But then I'd be looking for a secondary machine. Either the X60s or the 14.1" T61 WXGA+ (or SXGA+)...

If the X60 can fit two readable notepadsized windows side by side, then I think I'd prefer the smaller form factor.

xga screen of the x60 can't fit two page side by side. You would need a T61 with at least WXGA+ to do that. This is where wide screen comes into their own.

    ok I agree.

I guess I'll stick with the extra weight of 14" WXGA+ until the refurbished X300 prices fall.

The T400s is far too expensive. I'd prefer to spend that money on a decent 17" with dedicated graphics.

A refurbished Dell D430/D420 (low voltage Core Duo, 1280*800 wide) seems like a good compromise even though the HDD is 4200RPM..

The only reason that the T4x series of the old IBM thinkpad were slightly thinner than the T400 and T61, is the fact that none of them use a full magnesium top and bottom internal chassis.

The T4x series is marginally thinner than the T61 (4:3 model) because it has rollcage on both the display lid and in the chassis.
